Default Removing Chrome From 10 Spokes?

Anybody ever done it before? The chrome off my 10 spokes are starting to peel and they dont hold air very well anymore because the chrome is coming off from the tire is suppose to seat.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Lee

Are you going to have them powder coated?

Sand blasting is an option.

You could also try aircraft stripper but thats dirty, nasty, and only so so effective.

Need to know what you want to end up with to really create a path for you to follow.

I would like to know as well. The 10 spokes I put on my truck are like the op and I would like to strip them without harming the machined face finish underneath. I am considering powercoating them anniversary style. I asked a local chrome place but they couldn't help me because they said the stuff they use to strip parts is to harsh on aluminum so they can't do aluminum parts at all.

your going to have to get them blasted, and im positive there is no way to remove it without affecting the underlying face

i dont believe there is any acids that can be used to remove the chrome that wont hurt the aluminum beneath them, I could be incorrect though

Only way to do strip them correctly is electrolysis. It's the same way as chrome plating but reverse method.

Sand blasting will do the trick however if the chrome is thick, it will not come off. The Powdercoater shop that refurbed my chrome wheels tried the sand blast method to strip off the chrome and was not successful... it did scuffed up the chrome to hold the powder coat.

and that is some pretty toxic stuff, i would search on google and call and get a few prices, you might find out that it could be cheaper to buy new wheels or get another set of 10 spokes

Sandblasting, and a LOT of time. I own a powder coating shop and cringe when people bring chrome plated wheels in for coating that have the chrome starting to peel. I quote that type of job with time and material.

if your only concern is the chome peeling on the seating surface, just grind it off and use bead sealer. But if you're worried about the face/finish of the wheel you don't have many options and yeah it is a PITA to remove chrome... Coating over it should not be done either if it's peeling or in poor condition. Your best bet is to find a new set as cheap as possible and keep the old ones for spares, or sell them cheap.
