pics of drag setups? PLEASE
Does anyone here have any pics of Trans Am's with a drag setup? Would like to see some Draglites, Pro Stars, Aluma Stars, Magnums, and whatever else would be offered in a skinnie? I am trying to make up my mind...Thanks In Advance, Dave

Here's a closeup of bolted RT's on an F-body. Others can be seen in our Bogart SJM gallery of wheels.
There's a bunch of other good pictures of drag rims...just do a search for Bogart, weld etc...

The fronts are 15x3.5 with MT 8 ply Sportsman Pro (26" tall). The rears are 16x8 with 255/50/16 MT Drag radials. It's amazing how nice this setup rides on the street. I know people say the front skinnies are not good for the street but I have driven to and from the track a couple times (200 miles one way).
I have used Nittos and ET Streets and neither hook as good as the MT DR. The tread is much softer than both and just hooks better with no rear end float like the ET Streets. So far I have managed 1.57,160 and a 1.63 60-ft with them. By far the front skinnies and MT DR's were my best mods this year.

John,
That picture looks great! I don't have that one...do you mind if I copy it and make references to it at times?
BTW, is that a VW tire on the front? Get rid of that one and pick something lighter (and more safe). You can go to a DS2 and save ~15 lbs of the front. I think offhand, even a MTT-1572 going to save you ~8-10lbs that the VW tire.
Let me know.

The front tire is the Pep Boys Futura radial. I went with that because I drive the car to the track with them. The DS2 or MT's would save weight, but they are WAY too thin for any street use. Maybe once I get a trailer Interesting enough, the Futura is the lightest little street tire I've found ~13lbs
John, I bought that setup from Steve. The Bogarts do tuck in nice. They are 15x10 and 15x3.5's.
BTW.. Bob Cosby can be credited with getting that picture

Thanks.
The front wheels are Centerline Convo Pro 15x4 with 1-3/4" BS. About $140 each. The tires are 165R15 VW tires.
The rear wheels are Centerline Convo Pro 15x7.5 with 5”BS. About $170 each.
The tires are 26x9x15 Hoosier slicks.
These wheels fit without grinding or using spacers but they do stick out a little bit.

I think those numbers may be off...here's the specs that I have per manufacture fwiw:
This may be good info for anyone else whom has ever questioned any specs...these are not my numbers, they are from the tire manufactures.
Futura 165R15
Max rim width= 5.5
Min rim width=4.0
max load@44psi=1168
Diameter=25.33
Section width=6.45
Tread width=4.40
Tire weight=17.7
MT 1572 has essentially same section width while a larger tread width (4.8 inches) and its weight comes in at 16 lbs (good choice if your car is lightened up a bit)
The MT drag tires are 11-12 lbs with a larger section then all of them coming in at 6.8 inches with a tread width of 4.9 inches...best choice out of them all, though these will not perform as well on the street (not legal either...although neither are drag rims.)
So actually according to specs, the MT tire has actually a larger tread width (any of the MT fronts)
Remember It is not recommended that radial and non-radial tires be mixed on the same vehicle.

At any event, the VW tire is smaller then the MT tire just thought you may want to know....hopefully i'll get you to switch those darn things at some point:-)
I posted those specs as many folks may not know what they are...many think the VW tires aren't load rated for the car...that's not the case, the primary problem is they are not speed rated...
Keep in touch
