Default Bigger wheels.. Slower?

I was reading in another thread how someone got bigger wheels and now there car seems slower. I'm asking woudl getting bigger wheels actaully make the car slower? Has anyone actually gone to the track with their bigger wheels and got a slower time? I currently have stock 16 inch salad shooters and plan on getting 17 inch Z06 Wheels. Would getting these affect the performance?

It is not so much the size of the wheel as it is the weight that effects performance.

It is all about the weight...rotational mass has a HUGE effect on the car's performance. Bigger wheels/tires usually means heavier. If I really wanted my car to be fast, I can assure you, the wheels in my sig would be the first things to go.

Well then hurry up and decide that you want your car to be fast, and sell me those wheels!

That way I can stop pestering you about it!

You can "sorta" tell when I go back to my slightly lighter ZR1s, but not much of a difference at all. I can spin my 295/35/18s just as easily as my 275/40/17s.

i seemed to notice it when i went from my 16's to my 18's. one time when i was changing tires at the track my friend went to lift one up and couldnt believe how heavy they were, even compared to his 17" firehawk wheels. It seems to have droped me about 2 -3tenths in the 1/4. I went from running consistant 13.1's to 13.4's. and my mph went from 107-8 to 105-6

Thats strange cause i went from stock chrome ABS rims on my to 18/17 C5 rims and different tire sizes and i went with system and seats (i.e. full race weight) from a 12.9 to a 12.87, and a 12.85. So maybe it was to a lil better traction but i got a lil faster and the vetter rims felt lighter to me when i was changing them too. Maybe it all depends on what style and size rim you change to perhaps
