An infusion of modern power makes this ratty-looking 1966 Chevy C10 perhaps the perfect daily driver.

Many would argue that the iconic Chevy C10 pickup is perfect as-is, and needs nothing. It’s somewhat easy to agree with that notion, and yet, plenty of folks modify these beloved trucks on a regular basis, seeking to make them better in various ways. One of the most popular ways to modify these vintage pickups is, of course, with an infusion of modern power, and that’s precisely what this heavily patina’d 1966 Chevy C10 up for grabs at Bring a Trailer has to offer.

The previous owner sourced a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 from a 2004 Cadillac Escalade for this project, which appears to be pretty much stock save for an aftermarket air filter and aluminum radiator. The modern mill is mated to the big SUV’s 4L60E automatic transmission, which sends power back to a limited-slip differential for a fun and reliable combination.

The rest of this build is pretty much “in progress,” though we’d argue that it looks pretty cool as is. On the outside, a matte black finish gives it a more understated look, which is enhanced by a silver roof, while the previous blue hue was left intact inside the bed. The whole thing rolls on a set of 15-inch black steel wheels with chrome hub caps, which are wrapped with 255/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires.

The ratty theme continues inside, where you’ll find a bench seat covered in a Mexican-style blanket, with a few amenities including a hidden Boss 616UAB Bluetooth-capable stereo, though a Chevrolet-branded AM radio is mounted in the dash. There’s plenty of wear and age present here, including some cracks and tears, but that’s all part of this pickup’s character. The previous owner did give it front disc brakes and rear air helper springs to make it a bit more pleasant to drive, however.

Overall, this 1966 Chevy C10 is a cool cruiser with a newer drivetrain that makes it both reliable and fun to ride around in. Plus, you won’t have to worry about a runaway shopping cart hitting it in a busy parking lot. And to us, that makes this vintage pickup a pretty awesome driver we wouldn’t be afraid to take anywhere.
