GM reportedly wants to send its beloved car out with a bang by selling a small number of 2025 Camaro Z/28 models.

It’s been just a few weeks since GM finally confirmed rumors that have swirled for years to this point – the Camaro is indeed going away, at least the Camaro as we know it. Details are scant for the moment, but the sixth-generation model is set to be discontinued following the 2024 model year, though it may come back as an all-electric vehicle or something else entirely. However, before that happens – at least according to Car & Driver – the 2025 Camaro Z/28 will send it off with a bang as a track-focused monster of a car that serves as a spiritual successor to the fifth-gen Z/28.

As far as what the 2025 Camaro Z/28 will look like, well, C&D believes that it will carry on utilizing much of what’s left of the sixth-gen model, which makes quite a bit of sense given the fact that it’ll likely be a low-production, track-focused vehicle. That means it’ll ride on the same Alpha platform, albeit with fancy bits and pieces like Multimatic spool-valve dampers, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, R-comp tires, and weight savings measures at every corner.

What might power the 2025 Camaro Z/28 is up for debate, however. C&D wishes and speculates that it could be motivated by a slightly detuned version of the C8 Corvette Z06’s naturally-aspirated LT6 V8, however, which would be amazing. In this guise, the rag figures that a 650 horsepower output would be good enough to keep it slightly below the mighty Z06, but whether or not it might be mated to a manual transmission remains to be seen.

Though Car & Driver admits that the 2025 Camaro Z/28 program could be canceled at any time, it makes perfect sense for GM to send this beloved model off with a bang. It will reportedly be extremely limited, as one might imagine, with a potential run of 1,000 units or less, but for now, the newest and perhaps latest ICE-powered Z/28 is expected to launch near the end of the 2024 Camaro’s production run with deliveries beginning next fall.
