C3 rally

Here’s something you don’t see every day. It’s a C3 rally car and we’re all in for this kind of awesomeness.

So this is one that’s pretty cool. We discovered this C3 being used in the Legend Boucles at Bastogne rally. It’s an annual classic car rally held just outside of Luxembourg, in the town of Bastogne. The event is usually is rife with European cars, so seeing this American V8 must have been a treat for spectators and enthusiasts alike.

The car itself is a 1968 Corvette Stingray. It has a 427 engine of some sort, though we’re not sure exactly which iteration. Either way, it’s cool to see something American blast through the streets of Bastogne. Though fun fact: this town was part of WW2’s Battle of the Bulge, so not exactly the first time the locals have witnessed American power. The video below shows a few short bursts of the car storming the local roads. Despite not being as agile as competitors like the Porsche 911, this C3 holds its own.

Proving that the C3 is great at just about everything, this C3 was consistently in the top 10 finishers of each stage in a field of almost 60 cars overall. We already knew that the C3 was a great drag car, and an even better road racer, and even sometimes drift car. But who knew it could really get down then conditions get dirty? That’s not to say the C3 is the undiscovered answer to rally racing. The team decided to sit out on some of the more aggressive rally stages.

To be fair, there’s two fairly distinct types of rally racing. Tarmac rally, and gravel rally. Tarmac, as it suggests is mostly paved. Other rally stages could be anything from muddy ruts to river crossings and more. So it makes sense for the team to stay on the Tarmac stages, given that this C3 doesn’t look like it has much in the way of a suspension lift. But we know there’s osmeone out there crazy enough to try and off-road one of these things. If they do, we hope they keep one detail from this Corvette; Who would have ever thought the rar buttress area of the C3 Corvette could fit a spare tire so well?
