C6 Corvette Z06 With 2,000 HP Hits the Track for the First Time
Fresh off some upgrades, this wicked C6 Corvette Z06 makes it first few passes and shows quite a bit of promise.
Though the same can’t be said for the C8 generation model, older versions of the Corvette Z06 have become extreme bargains, high-performance cars right off the shelf that can be had for little money. That makes them appealing not only for those that just want a cheap, fun car to drive around, but also, folks that want to transform something into a total track monster. That’s certainly the case with this C6 Corvette Z06, which is a fresh build from Race Proven Motorsports that just hit the drag strip for the very first time.
This particular C6 Corvette Z06 is utilizing an LSX-based engine with a large ProCharger feeding it, which results in a cool 2,000 horsepower. Given the fact that this particular combination just hit the dyno for the first time a couple of weeks ago and is making its maiden voyage at the track, RPM goes a bit easy on the first couple of passes, and even then, experienced a solid amount of wheel spin from the start.
Of course, that’s all part of the process of getting a car with this much juice dialed in, and the team can rely on data to help make that happen. RPM proceeds to set up a bump box to help making staging a bit more consistent, but on its first run, it was a bit too aggressive – making the car rock violently. Thus, when RPM lets off the brake, it upsets the chassis, and the C6 Corvette Z06 didn’t even move off the line.
Once all of that is sorted and the car successfully weighs more than 3,200 pounds – a requirement for this class – it proceeds to rip off a 5.20-second pass at 144 mph, followed by a 5.08 at 148. RPM just added a new FuelTech system to the Z06, and that was its best pass yet with this setup, which is a good way to wrap up qualifying and prepare for the next day’s elimination runs.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t go as expected, and RPM’s C6 Corvette Z06 winds up losing to a guy in a second-gen Camaro who just so happens to have won the championship last year. However, this is only the beginning, as this car has just four total passes on it thus far – meaning that the only way to go from here is up.
