C8 Corvette and C7 ZR1 Short Track Battle
Can this one short race finally settle the score?
Do you ever lay awake at night wondering how the C8 Corvette and C7 Corvette stack up against each other? Don’t lie – we know you do. We do, too, and that’s why we were so happy to find this video.
YouTuber RearWheelDrive recently had a chance to visit the Freedom Factory, Cleetus McFarlane‘s personal race track in Bradenton, Florida. On this particular race day, around 60 street cars showed up for the “spectator drags,” an event in which a pair of cars face off against each other for a one-lap race.
Since the races went single-elimination style, the field narrows down to the fastest cars quickly. Most of RearWheelDrive’s friends fared well against the field of sports cars, although one would fall to a Tesla fairly early.
While two Teslas would advance, they didn’t make it into the finals. Although they have fast acceleration, they don’t corner quite like a proper sports car.
Clash of the Corvettes
RearWheelDrive’s C8 Corvette makes it all the way to the finals, where he faces off against none other than a C7 Corvette ZR1.
It’s the race many of us have been waiting for. The best C7 Corvette racing a C8 Corvette around a track should settle the score with some certainty.
The race is run twice, once with the C8 in the outside lane, and once with it on the inside lane. For the first race, the C8 is on the outside, and pulls away easily to start the race.
RearWheelDrive gets a car length right from the start and the C7 ZR1 never catches up. In fact, the C7 driver nearly loses control pushing himself to try to make up lost ground.
For the second race, the C8 is on the inside, and both cars get a good start. However, at the fist corner, it’s all over for the C7. The C8 pulls away and never looks back.
The C8 Corvette represents a major change for the Corvette platform. From what we can see here, it was a positive one.
