C8 Corvette Takes Down C7 Z06, Chevy SS in Dominant Showing

C8 Corvette vs Chevy SS and C7 Z06

Watch this C8 Corvette assert its dominance at the drag strip with some solid driving.

It’s no secret that the C8 Corvette is a quick car, reaching 60 mph from a standstill in less than three seconds thanks to its superior traction – not just an abundance of power. We’ve seen folks use that to their advantage numerous times at the drag strip, ripping off some impressive runs in both stock and modified versions of the new mid-engine machine. That holds true in this video from Drag Racing and Car Stuff as well, where we see a C8 Corvette take down everything it lines up against.

The C8’s first foe is a Chevy SS, the short-lived (at least in America) muscle sedan of our dreams. The SS came with GM’s 6.2-liter Corvette and Camaro-derived V8, making 415 horsepower in this guise routed to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. On the other side, the C8 is also packing a 6.2-liter V8, but it’s the latest version – the LT2 – which cranks out up to 495 horsepower and features a quick-shifting dual-clutch gearbox.

It’s unclear if either of these cars is modified in any way, but in stock form, the C8 obviously has a huge advantage in terms of power, weight, traction, and transmission. However, in this race, the SS driver actually cuts a better light and jumps out to an early lead before the C8 reels him in and takes the win. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any times for this run, however.

Next up, the C8 takes on its predecessor, the C7 Z06, which came from the factory packing a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 making 650 horsepower. Obviously, that’s quite a bit more than the C8, but in the real world, power isn’t always everything, a fact on clear display here. This time, the C8 driver isn’t sleeping at the light and gets the holeshot. The C7 Z06 makes up some ground, but the C8 ultimately takes home the win with a 10.89-second pass at 124 mph versus the former’s 10.95 at 129 mph in a super tight race.

Clearly, the C7 Z06 would have claimed victory if its driver hadn’t been taking a nap at the line, but that’s how things go at the drag strip. Regardless, these races are undoubtedly impressive and reinforce the fact that the C8 is a formidable machine in terms of straight-line acceleration, right out of the box.
