Cadillac Kills the CTS, But Builds an ATS GT3

2015 Cadillac ATS Crimson Sport Edition

A few weeks ago I told you that Cadillac was looking to build a full FiA spec GT3 racecar with the help of the Corvette guys over at Pratt & Miller Racing. At first I figured they would use the newest CTS V badge when it finally debuts, however Cadillac is now saying that the car they will be running will be a ATS V!

The CTS platform has been in service for a long time, and Cadillac has won a lot of the races they enter with it. But the platform is aging and doesn’t represent fully what the new Cadillac is all about. The company needs to switch platforms in order to show that they are still progressing and still striving for the future.

The Pratt & Miller squad reportedly is already putting the car through its shakedown runs in Michigan. And the car doesn’t use the same V8 as the last generation CTS V.R anymore; instead a redeveloped twin-turbocharged V6 will be powering the wheels.

I’m personally hugely excited for more and more manufacturers developing road race specific cars. It not only helps the sport, and makes the races interesting. But it helps the manufacturer test new components that will later be seen on road cars! That means ceramic brakes, increased carbon fiber use, and a whole host of other pieces that make the cars better and safer. Hopefully Cadillac will drop the curtain soon, because I can’t wait!
