Pony Car Rivalry Summed Up: Fourth-Gen Camaro Smashes Mustang

Orange F-Body unapologetically hammers Mustang while doing donuts, then celebrates with more donuts before escaping into the crowd.

You know how sometimes a video or photo represents a situation like a metaphor? Yeah, this isn’t one of those times. This video posted to Facebook by Rivsu Imports is a real, physical manifestation of the Ford-Chevy rivalry over the years.

1997 Chevrolet Camaro Fourth Generation Mustang Smash

What’s the context? We have no idea and, frankly, it doesn’t matter. In the video, a tired-looking fourth-generation Camaro and a piecemeal SN-95 Ford Mustang look poised to engage in some kind of battle of the burnouts and/or donuts. And that almost happens.

However, the Camaro driver has no interest in dueling donuts. We’re not really 100-percent sure what he was trying to do. Regardless of intent, he just whips a donut and then smashes the Mustang with the Camaro’s rear bumper. The Mustang clatters to a stop shortly after.

There’s no acknowledgment of an accident or anything. Instead, it sure looks like a straight-up “F— your Mustang” incident. How can you tell? Well, the victory donuts that follow are dead giveaway.

Would there be any chance of the post’s top comment being a Mustang vs. Crowd joke? Nope. As Luis Sandoval’s top comment from on the Rivsu Facebook page points out, “Mustang kill crowd, camaro kills mustang, the food chain.”

All jokes aside, this generally looks like a lot of bad ideas happening at once. Suffice to say, everyone involved probably came out worse for wear in this one.

Today, Ford and GM look poised to trade barbs in the modern Mustang GT500 vs. Camaro ZL1 rivalry. That said, we don’t think this kind of direct physical representation is quite what GM has in mind when they design the ZL1 as “a Shelby killer.”
