Outlaw Camaro Takes Flight After Crash

Fourth-gen driver takes wild ride after getting loose in a big-dollar grudge match.

Big-dollar grudge races should prompt excitement, but one Camaro racer got more than he bargained for in a YellowBullet Nationals matchup.

Canadian racer Nick Agostino has put his fourth-gen Camaro into the 3s before, but this $20,000 face-off with Jerry Morgano’s Mustang went a little higher at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland.

Much higher.

The madness was all captured by TheRacingVids on YouTube. Agostino hammered his Outlaw 10.5 car and looked pretty good through 330 feet of the ⅛-mile run. However, the monstrous Camaro got sideways near the final marker and after spinning, Agostino could only hold on.

The Camaro tripped the lights at 160 miles per hour sideways. As it rotated, the wheels came off the ground. After hitting the wall, the car launched vertically and flew for a couple hundred feet before crashing hard on its side. The 2000 Camaro slid on its lid for a long time before coming to a stop.

According to one account, Agostino’s initial question to first responders was about his 330-foot time. Now that’s a real drag racer. Even with his car beat up and the nose a half-mile from the rest of the car, he wanted to know how the run had been.

Bonus points for the photographer at the top end of the track for needing some clean underwear. That’s maybe not the smartest place to shoot photos, FYI.

A check-up at the local hospital revealed a separated shoulder from where Agostino contacted the rollcage. Since he was asking for his time slip while being plucked from an inverted car, we expect Nick will be back in his repaired Outlaw Camaro as soon as possible.
