Two titans of the industry have gone head to head with one another for the past 50 years. Chevy and Ford, Ford and Chevy. Each over the years have brought out their own unique takes on what a purpose built drag racer is supposed to look like. Yesterday, Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang leaked out before its official unveiling at this year’s SEMA show. Now though, Chevy is fighting back with the all-new 6th Generation COPO Camaro.

Based on the new Alpha platform, the new COPO Camaro benefits immediately from all the engineering, sweat and blood Chevy’s engineers put into the new 6th Gen platform. It has better aerodynamics and has a host of awesome engine options. There will be three engines offered actually, the first a supercharged 350 V8, a naturally aspirated 427 V8, and a 6.2-liter LT engine. All of which will be mated to a Turbo 400 three-speed trans.

In addition to the new engines and chassis, the COPO Camaro will get a wheelie bar, a parachute, racing wheels and tires, a full cage, racing bucket seats, new gauges, a solid rear axle, a fuel cell, and a set of racing spec four-wheel disc brakes.

It is one of the most capable drag machines out there. So who’s ready to take on Ford and its puny Cobra Jet Mustang?
