Coffee & Cars in Texas Tells Mustang, Charger and Camaro Owners to Stay Home

Coffee & Cars Ban

The Coffee & Cars organization says the action had to be taken because owners would not heed the no revving and burnout warnings.

Coffee & Cars has been hosting monthly car meetups in the Houston, Texas area every month since 2004. All types of cars have always been welcomed until now. According to a post on their Instagram page the organization has banned all Mustangs, Chargers, and Camaros from attending events. The reason provided is that despite repeated warnings, the owners of these vehicles continue to rev their engines and do burnouts. This kind of behavior is an invitation for local police to shut down these shows. To prevent that from happening, the organizers made the bold decision to ban these cars from attending.

As you would expect with such a decision, not everyone was happy. Reading through the comments on the Instagram post announcing the ban reveals that many call it discriminatory. Folks argue that the offenders should be dealt with, but it is unfair to ban specific car models because a few folks don’t know how to behave. We are sure that Coffee & Cars would prefer to welcome everyone. But they are in a tough position because they don’t want to put their entire event at risk.

Mustangs & Chargers & Camaros, Oh My!

We love all of these cars, and don’t want to see them banned from any shows. The folks at Coffee & Cars claim it is a temporary ban, but there is no definitive date as to when the cars may be welcomed back. If we are honest some of these cars, especially the Mustang, have gained quite the reputation for doing stupid things at car meets. So, we can’t say that we are totally surprised. But singling out specific models does seem a bit harsh.

Why Revving is Bad

Ford Mustang

Most folks can easily understand why doing burnouts at a public car show is not a good idea. It can easily lead to a crash and injuries. But everyone loves to hear the sound of an engine, right? Well, everyone at the car show might. But the folks living and working nearby might not. And revving is as contagious as yawning. Once one person starts then more and more begin to join in. The next thing you know the neighbors are calling the police and lodging noise complaints. That happens too many times and the show gets shut down, and then everyone loses.

Moving Forward

Nobody wants to have the show shut down. And there are plenty of responsible Mustang, Charger and Camaro owners out there that want to join in on the fun. They should be able to bring their car like everyone else. Will the ban be lifted? Will the organizers come up with another solution? That remains to be seen. But for the time being, if you want to attend a Coffee & Cars event you will need to drive something else.
