Corvette ZR1 & Huracan Get Rowdy on the Track, Regret Ensues
Lamborghini Huracan is the Corvette ZR1’s natural prey in these 60 mph to 140 mph roll races.
It’s a rivalry going back since Enzo Ferrari infuriated Henry Ford II to the point he had the Ford GT built to take on Ferrari on its home turf in Europe in the 1960s. It’s highbrow European design and engineering versus the American will to win and creativity. If you buy into all that, it’s also sophistication versus vulgarity or over-complicated arrogance versus blue-collar reality. We just love fast cars, though.
Our favorite here is the bang-for-your-buck supercar hunting Corvette ZR-1. However, it’s impossible not to appreciate the sheer over-the-top lunacy of the Lamborghini Huracan. So, when the guys over at the Track Day YouTube channel put a C6 generation Corvette ZR1 up against a Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 in a third of a mile roll race, we’re going to pay attention.
There’s a fun personal rivalry going on here in the video, but we’ll stick to the cars here. The Huracan went into production in 2014, and the video’s host is close to the money in describing the LP610-4 as “Basically, a souped-up Audi R8 V10+ with a fancy body kit.” The white Italian bull lays down 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque from its 10-cylinder mid-mounted masterpiece, making it a little more than an entry-level supercar.
In the yellow corner, the C6 Corvette was introduced to the world in 2007 with its supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 under the hood and making 638 hp while generating 604 lb-ft of torque. Despite having two fewer cylinders and being at least one dog year older than the Lamborghini, the Corvette is favorite on paper in terms of power.
Looking beyond power figures, there are fundamental differences between the two cars. The Huracan LP610-4 is much more technologically advanced as it features a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. The C6 Corvette ZR1 is rear-wheel-drive and has a six-speed manual transmission. Despite a smaller engine and fewer moving parts in the drivetrain, the Corvette ZR1 only weighs a little less than the Huracan LP610-4 at 3,373 lbs versus 3,404 lbs.
Track Day shows us three third of a mile passes racing from 60 mph to 140 mph. You’ll have to watch the video to find out which car dominated the racing and by how much, but we’ll give you a clue: It’s the older LS powered American built car with yellow paint and a much smaller price tag.
