Now, don’t take this as any sign of things to come, but it’s definitely a good thing to hear. Mark Reuss , GM’s North America president, told Automotive News that “A really nice, light, rear-drive car that’s inexpensive — we know that rings a bell.” You’re damn right it does.

That doesn’t mean that they’ll be putting out an FR-S killer anytime soon though. As far as performance cars go, GM has just announced a handfull of new ones. The C7, Z/28, and the SS are all in the pipeline. It’s also worth considering that the target market for such a car is pretty small. Younger buyers hungry for rwd coupes aren’t exactly flush with cash. Still, they do exist, and it would definitely be a win for GM if they could do something like this in a cost effective way.

They definitely will not be using the body style of the 130R concept. According to Reuss, that design is already dated. Personally, I’d be happy with a smaller version of the Camaro. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
