ICT Billet’s LS-Swapped Truck Blows the Wheels off a Camaro

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you sheer an axle. The ICT Billet LS SS Truck dominates the Camaro.

Wichita Raceway Park played host to The Park After Dark 3 event on April 10. In this event, there are several classes where drivers can compete for cash on the drag strip. The folks at ICT Billet brought their favorite Chevy truck to compete in the Small Tire class.

The truck is known as the LS SS. You probably can figure out what the LS stands for. Like many drag racers, ICT Billet uses an LS-platform. Makes sense as their business is built entirely on the LS swap business. We have seen plenty of drag trucks before, and we love them. This LS SS packs a hell of a punch. With $3,000 on the line, it is not playing around.

In the other lane is another drag race stalwart, the Chevy Camaro. The Camaro is no joke on the drag strip either. They can be spectacularly fast. They can also fail in spectacular fashion. Unfortunately for the driver this time it was the latter. Some days your car just hooks too hard and bad things happen.

As captured by the folks at NXGonzo Video, the Camaro had one of those days. Shortly after leaving the line the Camaro shears its rear axle in remarkable fashion. One of the rear wheels makes it further down the track than the rest of the car. Thankfully this happened just after the car passed the starter. Neither the starter or the driver were injured in this wreck.

The LS SS truck won that round obviously but was not the overall winner in the Small Tire class that night. That won’t deter the crew at ICT Billet. They will be back. It might be in the truck again or in another one of their LS-swapped builds. They have a kit now that is designed for a Subaru BRZ LS-swap.

We bet that car would be a hoot to drive around. As proven at Park After Dark 3 the vehicles they build are reliable and done to a high standard. You can’t win if you can’t finish.

This race may not have lasted very long but it was certainly entertaining to watch. Especially knowing that everyone was OK. Seeing these impressive builds racing down the track as they were meant to do is a thrill. However, we wish we could have been there in person to watch. Or even better, to race. We just hope that we would have better luck than this Camaro.

For the fellow racers out there, have you ever snapped an axle? Have you ever had a similarly high pucker factor moment while on a drag strip? Head on over to the LS1 Tech forums and share your story. If you have it captured on video, even better.
