Alex Van Halen LS Swapped RX-7

LS-swapped RX-7 dream machine has only 20,000 miles and was owned by rock drummer Alex Van Halen.

What a crazy opportunity! You undoubtedly know of Alex Van Halen. He is the drummer for legendary rock band Van Halen, known for such classic hits as “Panama” and “Runnin’ with the Devil.” His excellent taste doesn’t stop at music, and our appreciation for him just went up a few notches!

The FD RX-7 was the last good generation of Mazda’s rotary sports car. We don’t need to delve into the RX-8. While the rotary engine is cool in its own right, we can’t argue the appeal for putting a good lump of Chevy aluminum in one of these fantastic looking beasts. It was quite an appealing idea for Van Halen too. Though he did eventually sell this LS swapped masterpiece, it wound up in the hands of a user of one of our sister sites, 6SpeedOnline. Now that user, who goes by Pakman, has listed it for sale on the site’s forums.

The flowing lines of the RX-7 are only made better by the LS in the engine bay. This car only has 20,000 miles on it, and it even passes California smog. Additionally, it has power steering and air conditioning. Though the AC is leaking, so if you are looking for any fault here, that seems to be it.

“Up for sale is my 6.2-liter V8 (LS3) R2 Package RX-7. Car just hit 20k miles a few months ago. I bought it a couple of years ago from rock legend Alex Van Halen. Had the car serviced at DNA Garage last year. Car has PS, AC. A/C has a leak so hoses may need to be replaced. Everything else works perfectly, car drives great. Smogged and registered, title in hand,” says the owner

The vehicle has an asking price of $44,000, and if you aren’t familiar with the market of a clean, low-mileage FD RX-7, this is a steal.
