LS6-swapped S2000 Is Our Kind of Hybrid
Honda S2000 finest with a GM V8 under the hood? Yes, please.
We have nothing but respect for the Honda S2000. Honda’s way to ring in the 21st century, it’s a good-looking, high-revving roadster that’s great at corner-carving and twisty mountain roads. But, at the end of the day, the S2000 is still a Honda. Aside from that high redline, it feels pretty ho-hum in most driving conditions. So when YouTuber Ricky Boada took his friend Javi Alfonso’s LS6-swapped S2k out for a spin, you better believe that we took notice.
Before you start thinking that Javi’s Honda is some quick-and-dirty swap job, this car was built by KAB Customs of Fort Lauderdale, and it shows. The LS6 came from a ’04 ‘Vette, and had just 24k miles on the clock when it was swapped in. The rev-limiter is set at around 6,100-rpm, a pretty big change from the stock Honda S22. But with a fairly stock LS, it’s still pumping out around 600 horsepower and an unknown amount of torque. “It’s weird,” Javi says, “you’re used to seeing the S redline at 9, so at first you’re like ‘what’s going on…'” If you ask us, we’ll trade revs for power any day.
‘So Sick…’
Other mods include FITech intake manifold & injectors, a Monster clutch, massive disc brakes, a carbon fiber hood and doors, a chrome roll cage, unique bumpers and rear diffuser, and a very cool fastback roof. People ask: Why did you put an LS in an S2000,” Javi says, “and I say ‘When you drive it, you’ll see why.'”
After the drive in the rain, the guys get back to Ricky’s garage, where Andres of KAB Customs gives the rundown on the car. His plan was to drop the LS in and keep it for himself, but Javi loved the car so much that he bought it and they did the swap together. At a loss for words, Ricky just pours over the car and says “… so sick.” We couldn’t agree more.
From the outside, this S2000 is about as Japanese-looking as a tuner car can get. But we love the fact that an LS-swap is almost a curveball here. If you’re in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area, keep an eye out for Javi’s S2k. We know that we can’t wait to see more of this car.
