“The 1979 Trans Am. A new breed of wow!” – screamed the advertisements of the day. The Firebird was 12-years old when this version hit the streets. This year’s model sported a new body-colored urethane beak, ported headlights and a low black grille.

The tail was redesigned too and a dark louver concealed the rear deck lights until you hit the brakes or used the turning signals. It was in GM’s words, “As exciting going as it is coming.”

This week’s wallpaper ride was also a ton of fun to drive, especially with the pedal to the metal. When this car was new, Jimmy Carter was still President, The Clash was on tour and gas was only .86 cents a gallon. Good times.
