This Modified C6 ZR1 Is A Powerhouse Dream Car

By -

The video opens with a question, a somewhat polarizing one. Is the C6 ZR1 the best Corvette ever made? I’m inclined to say no, but it’s definitely toward the front of the pack. Of the C6 models. I think I’d rather have a Z06, as that’s the one I’ve lusted after since its introduction. A C7 Z06, however, does everything that a C6 ZR1 can, only better.

So what makes this ZR1 possibly the best Corvette ever?

This particular car, however, has a litany of modifications, that can close the gap. Power is pumped up a bit with a smaller supercharger pulley, methanol injection, and more. Not to mention that it’s got a short shifter and a deep carbon fiber front air dam that makes it look mean and purposeful. The best modification, however, is a big set of brand new sticky Michelins. I have a lot of experience with the Pilot Sport Cup 2, and it has likely done wonders for this ‘Vette, improving acceleration, braking, and cornering speeds in one fell swoop.

The video review has a few inaccuracies in it, including the pricing structure of the current state of ZR1 secondary market sales. They claim that you can’t find a good ZR1 for $60,000 anymore, that they’ve all appreciated over that mark. A cursory glance at eBay will prove otherwise. While there are some super-low-mile examples up into the 70s, most are hovering around the 60-65 thousand mark, and a few down into the high-50s. Perhaps even more surprising, C4 ZR1s can be had as low as 14 grand!

If you know your Corvettes, you’ll likely see a few things wrong with this video. However, it’s fun to watch someone fall in love with a Corvette over the course of a 10 minute video anyhow. “That Dude In Blue” may well be a Corvette Convert after this extremely fun experience driving this car. It’s easy to see that he’s got a huge grin on his face every time he drops the hammer. In this moment, for this particular driver, maybe this particular car actually is the best Corvette ever built.
