Murder Nova and Larry Larson Throw Down at No Prep Drags
Two legends in the world of street and no prep racing put on a show worthy of their lofty status.
Whether you enjoy or loathe the drama Discovery’s smash hit Street Outlaws, you can’t deny that it also features plenty of hot racing action. And without a doubt, one of the biggest (and original) stars of the show, Murder Nova, always brings it each week. But after Shawn Ellington ran into issues with his original car’s chassis that couldn’t be patched over, it was time to build an entirely new ride.
Ellington made a couple of notable changes to his new Nova, however. The biggest being a switch from big block Chevy power to a 482 cubic inch small block. Though both are/were turbo motors. It’s also 600 pounds lighter. But if you’ve been following the show, the new Murder Nova has experienced typical new race car pains that have yet to be ironed out.
Meanwhile, Larry Lawson and his S-10 aren’t Street Outlaws regulars. But they have remained pretty dominant in the national no prep scene. Which is what you’d expect from a massively turbo’d pickup that’s essentially a street legal Pro Mod. Regardless, Lawson finds himself treed by Ellington and a little behind in this instance.
Lawson does manage to reel him in on the big end, however. And it looks like Ellington had to lift for whatever reason. But in the end, it’s a great close race and just another example why we love no prep racing.
It’s about as close as you can get to the real-deal street stuff, minus the pesky law enforcement. And we never get tired of watching crazy fast cars skate down the track, fighting desperately for traction!
