2000 Chevrolet Silverado 6.0 Swap Manual T56 Transmission

Single-cab short-bed GMT800 on Cars and Bids impresses with a six-speed manual transmission and an LQ4 making 300 wheel horsepower.

We love a good GMT800 Silverado. It’s a fantastic platform for towing, off-roading, and just about any amount of truck stuff you could possibly want to do. We especially love them because, of course, they come with an LS-based engine. Under the hood of a GMT800 Silverado 1500, you’ll find either a 4.8 or a 5.3, generally. However, for some, that doesn’t quite do it. Indeed, sometimes when you lift the hood on a Silverado 1500 from this era, you’ll find something entirely different. Like, for example, the LQ4 6.0-liter V8 from a Silverado 2500 like you’ll find under the hood of this one. However, while it is a great swap and offers a decent bump of power (and potential power) for a great price, that isn’t where the most surprising thing is on this particular Silverado. Instead, you’ll be pretty surprised when you open the door and find a shifter marked with six gears sticking out of the floor.

This superb manual and 6.0 swapped GMT800 Silverado 1500 is currently for sale on Cars and Bids. What’s not to love? Single-cab, short-bed, big meaty tires, and the rare opportunity to row through gears manually are more than enough for us. We’ll be paying special attention to this one! At the time of writing, the bid is only at $2,000. Though, it also has six days left.

This Pickup Has Some Pick-Up!

Included in the sale of this awesome Silverado is a dyno sheet that reads 294 horsepower at the wheels. For reference, the most power you could get out of a stock 2000 Silverado 1500 was 285 horsepower at the crank. So, assuming a 25% drivetrain loss, this truck has over 80 more horsepower than a stock one!

The power is sent through a six-speed T56 transmission and makes its way to the rear axle. Yes, just the rear. To somehow wrangle a functioning 4×4 system into this equation would be quite the magic trick.  That being said, the differential is equipped with a 4.88 final drive ratio, so this truck probably feels like a rocket ship compared to most GMT800s. Furthermore, it’s a limited-slip differential. So, you can have all the sideways fun in the dirt you could ever imagine. Throw a couple of clutch kicks in there to link some big sweeping corners, and tell us you’d still prefer it to be 4×4! Not to worry about breaking it, either. It’s got a upgraded clutch to handle the abuse.

Silverado Is Here Solely for a Good Time

Sure, the interior has some pretty substantial wear and tear. But, let’s be real here, this truck isn’t for keeping pristine and taking to car shows. It’s for having fun. It’s got an aftermarket stereo deck, a JL Audio amplifier and subwoofer, and easy-to-wash vinyl flooring. This thing is for having fun and getting dirty, and it’s got everything you need to party!

There are some other complaints to be had here, though. It’s got some dry rotting to the tires, the fresh(ish) paint has some rock chips, dings, scuffs, and so on. Semantics, really.

We’re happy to admit that this truck isn’t for everyone. However, don’t many people go through the effort of manual swapping a Silverado. So if it’s ever crossed your mind, but you don’t have the know-how or the time to do it yourself, this may be your chance to get one that’s done and ready to rock!
