Son Surprises Father with 2020 Camaro SS 1LE

Brand-new Camaro SS with 455-horsepower n/a V8, 6-speed manual and 1LE track package is a gift that keeps on giving.

Fathers and sons can bond over anything. Some connect over music. For others, movies are the unifying force. Many gearhead dads spark a love of cars in their boys, which only grows over time and leads to countless adventures and unforgettable stories. One of the coolest ways a son can thank their father for giving them a lifelong passion is to give them the gift of a new car. A YouTuber named Hisham Mansoor (aka Hishy 2 Times on YouTube) was able to do that for his dad with a Shock yellow 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE.

It all started with Mansoor’s previous car. He had a 2019 Camaro SS 1LE in the same color. Mansoor indulged in its ample power in street races and out on the track…until he blew the engine. Mansoor didn’t have it for long, but it made a strong impression on his father. The older Mansoor fell in love with it, preferring it over a C7 Corvette.

Luckily, the younger Mansoor works at a Chevy dealership. He put in the legwork and sourced a 2020 model with the 2SS trim level, which is a step up in luxury from his ill-fated 1LE. It has a long list of niceties, including heated and cooled seats, blind spot monitoring and GM’s cool rearview mirror camera.

Mansoor is so pumped about surprising his dad with his dream car that you’d think he was getting it for himself. He says, “I’m more excited … than my dad is probably going to be.” Once Mansoor gets the Camaro to his place, he has to make room for it in his Chevy-packed garage, which houses a fourth-generation Camaro, C7 ZR1 and C6 ZR1. After parking the C6 down the street, Mansoor replaces it with his father’s new Camaro.

Then Mansoor devises a ruse that will trick his father into walking into his garage without giving him any idea of what will be in there. He rigs a GoPro camera in there, then tells his dad that his automatic garage door is malfunctioning so that he’ll have to enter the house through the front door. Mansoor can barely contain his excitement. “I’ve been waiting for this all day.” We’re willing to guess he’s been waiting a lot longer than that to give his father the ultimate car enthusiast’s gift.

It all works out just the way Mansoor plans it. His dad walks toward the garage thinking he’s going to help his son with a household problem. When he sees the exact car he’s been wanting for so long so unexpectedly, he asks his son, “What the hell is that?!” It soon becomes clear it’s one epic thank you gift.

The two Mansoors cap it all off the exact way they should: With a father-and-son drive. It’s a classic scene with the modern twist of active rev matching for each downshift.

As cool as the Camaro is, the best part of this video is the excitement Mansoor feels about surprising his father with such a generous present. The two of them are obviously close to each other. We wish them thousands of miles of great memories together in Chevy’s iconic sports car.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
