Los Angeles build 1967 Fisher body Chevrolet Camaro Number 1 For Sale at Barrett Jackson

L.A.-built Camaro is the very first Fisher body off the production line, and it looks just as good as the day it was built back in 1967.

We’ve all seen the incredible low-mileage Camaro SS and Corvette examples sell for monumental numbers from various auctions. However, it is equally exciting in our eyes to see lesser-loved models get a little time in the spotlight. While this Fisher body Camaro isn’t the fastest model to roll off the assembly line, it does carry some impressive historical weight. It is the very first Fisher body ever built. With its chassis code and VIN wearing some remarkably low numbers, it isn’t hard to see why we love this thing.

Barrett-Jackson seems to be a never-ending plethora of rare and crazy cars. This 1967 Fisher body Camaro is certainly no exception to the rule. This car is set to sell during their online-only auction running July 6th through July 10th, and we imagine it’s going to fetch a pretty penny.

Unfortunately, the name is not associated with the late, great Carrie Fisher. Though it is just as beautiful. Rather, Fisher Body was a coachbuilder founded in Detroit way back in 1908. Though it served as a part of General Motors for years, it was officially dissolved in 1984. These Camaros were built in Van Nuys, California, and this is the very first one they built. Chassis number P001 and VIN 00016. Each Fisher made Camaro wears a cowl tag with the details of the specs of the car stamped on it. Jerry MacNeish verified this particular Camaro in 2016. MacNeish is a renowned Camaro historian and racing driver. He knows his stuff!

Wearing Ermine White on the exterior, the red vinyl interior perfectly completes the look of this gorgeous car. It also features both the interior decor package and the deluxe interior package. As the lovely folks over at Autoevolution pointed out, it also has a push-button AM radio and a rear seat speaker system. Needless to say, it is a pretty lovely spec.

327 cubic inches of truth

Under the hood rests a 327 cubic inch V8, spitting out a respectable 275 horsepower. Transferring that power to the rear wheels is the iconic Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. A transmission that, to this day, is a mainstay at drag strips around the world. The final piece of the powertrain is the 10-bolt rear end.

While it may not be a speed demon by today’s standards, make no mistake. This car was a force to be reckoned with in its time. It will crack off a zero to sixty run in just about eight seconds. Again, not mind-blowing by today’s standards, but it had plenty of zest for 1967.

This Camaro has a reserve, so it may or may not hit the desired price. However, whether or not it sells, it is excellent to get a chance to see it. Even though we only get to see it in pictures, we still feel like we got to experience an iconic piece of Chevy history.
