Very Rapid Blue: 1,500 Horsepower Twin Turbo C8

1,500 horsepower C8

Late Model Racecraft has just completed their first 1,500 horsepower twin turbo C8 that runs on a tuned factory ECM.

This is not the first twin turbo C8 Corvette. It is not even the first C8 Corvette to make 1,500 horsepower. But the trick with the C8 has long been unlocking the factory ECU. That finally became possible recently and Late Model Racecraft jumped right in and produced their first 1,500 horsepower, twin turbo C8 that runs on a tuned factory ECU. Being able to utilize the factory ECU will greatly improve the drivability of this Corvette compared to previous builds.

The owner of Late Model Racecraft, Steven Fereday recently posted a video to the company YouTube channel. The video shows the details of the build as well as how the car performs on the street and at the drag strip. Spoiler alert, it performs incredibly. Let’s take a closer look at this amazing Rapid Blue Corvette.

LT2 twin turbo

Build

Other than the factory ECU tune another highlight of this build must be the top mounted Precision 6266 turbochargers. They simply look incredible bolted on top of the LT2 engine. One peek through the engine cover and you know that this is a special Corvette. The turbos push about 15 pounds of boost in street tune and up to 20 pounds for the drag strip. The block and crank are factory but the pistons, and rods are built, and the cylinder heads are CNC ported. There are GForce CV axles in the rear and the clutch has been upgraded as well. The frunk is filled with a methanol tank that can feed the injectors and get this beast in the 2,000 horsepower range. That level of performance needs to wait until the transmission control module is available to tune.

Performance

On the dyno the car put down 1,241 horsepower and 1,049 pound-feet of torque to the wheels. But this car was built to have fun at the drag strip so naturally it had to be tested there before being returned to the customer. On a set of drag slicks it ran a 9.18 at 158.73 mph in the quarter mile. In the right conditions this is can be an 8-second car. When the TCM is available for a tune and the meth can be used, it will easily get into the 8-second range. On the street the car is docile if you drive sensibly. But where is the fun in that? On street tires, the car will spin the rears from a launch in the first four gears.

It is insane.

Fereday Corvette

‘Fereday Corvette’

Late Model Racecraft offers several performance packages for the Corvette. But the one here is a “Fereday” Signature Edition Corvette. What makes the Fereday cars stand out is that you as the owner work directly with Fereday to build the car to your exact specifications. The aero package, the wheels, the tires, the drivetrain, and more are all discussed with Fereday, and he will offer recommendations based on your stated goal for the car.
