Would You Save this Custom Knudsen Carralo Camaro From Death?

By -

Fiberglass galore! This hand fabricated ‘Carralo’ Camaro was someone’s dream car at one point. And it still could be.

Those subscribed to Final Boss Garage on YouTube know it is a channel devoted to Camaros. Most commonly, third generation Camaros. With a budget build as the main content, junkyards are often frequented. The video starts simple enough. It’s just a search for some window switches. After drawing a blank at the first junk yard, he visits a second, and that’s when the host stumbled upon something truly amazing.

What he found was a Knudsen Carralo Camaro. The Carrallo was a custom fiberglass wonder of ’90s excess, and this one was actually remarkably clean. The Purple/violet/lilac color might not have been the final choice, but either way, the car was mostly complete, engine and all.

Most of the time when we see a body kit on a Camaro, it’s either hit or miss. This one, although not to everyones taste, is at least not a hacked together job. While the video host says it is a 1987 model, he also says it’s a 25th anniversary edition, indicating a 1992 model year. The dash and steering wheel further indicate it is later edition 3rd gen.

Custom kits were quite popular in the 80’s and 90’s, and we’re looking forward to seeing a possible resurgence and revival of these weird and wacky creations. Many of us remember seeing them for the first time in older car magazines, and some of them may have been the spark behind our passion. Were they fast? Not at all. Are they significantly important in a historical way? Not really. But they are one of a kind and definitely of their era.

What would we do with a car like this? Well, hard to tell. Ask anyone at LS1Tech what they’d do and you’d get a different answer every time. Some would make it period correct with a 90’s style build and bring it to RadWood. Others would throw an LT4 crate motor in there and paint it a menacing black, silencing all the nay-sayers who judge it purely on looks.
