Default Reliable DD 11 sec car...

Ok, this is my only car and I want it to have good gas milege and drivability, but want it to perform well at the track. This is what the car well have when I'm done.

My question is, will this make mid to high 11's.

1998 Camaro SS LS1 M6

What I have:
Lid
Pro 5.0/ WS6 Store Stick
SPEC 2 Clutch
Ported TB

What I want:
LS6 Intake
Exhaust (LT Headers, ORY, Corsa Catback)
100 rwhp dry shot (stock fuel pump & injectors)
Tune

What do you guys think? Low 12's, High 11's, or Mid 11's?
Advice? Opinions?

Thanks!!

By the way...

I have a stock 10 bolt & 275 street tires

I can't afford a 12 bolt right now but the car will
only see the track like once a year anyways.

You should get high 11's with drag radials and good driving. My car ran 11.97 @ 120 with a sorry 2.07 60 ft. The car spun off the line and the tires broke lose when the nitrous engaged at 3,000 rpms. The track was prepped horribly that day so my car should run 11.70s pretty easily. Your car has pretty much the same mods as mine except my car is an A4. My car also has the stock rearend with 3.23 gears, stock stall, and weighs 3600 lbs. I was also running 275/40-17 BFGoodrich drag radials.

I think it will be tough to get with street tires.

So would they last as long as my Kumho Ecsta Supra tires. About how long do Nittos last?

Tire width doesnt really effect your traction, its more the quality of rubber your running and sidewall height. It is easier to net better times with a 16" 275 sticky tire, than a tire not as sticky sized 17" 315mm. Your engine set-up will no doubt put out 11's, but goodluck with your rear. Even going for 11's once on an M6 is dangerous.

I will get a 12 bolt eventually, but I don't need one right away, because for one my car only has 30 something thousand miles and a new locker for the 10 bolt. Also, I'm going to take it to the track maybe once a year.

So how about the 10 bolt for now, I like my gears but when I eventually get a 12 bolt I'll go 3.73's. For traction 275/45/17 Nittos.

You mean dangerous as in breaking the 10 bolt, right?

yes, and the nittos will last around 12k miles. they have a tread rating of 100, so while they'll outlast the m/t and bfg's they arent as good as them, but on the flipside they will hook way better than any street tire, but will wear faster

if you're going to stay on a street tire you might as well just stick w/ stock gera ratios........ you wont really be able to use anything more.

you'll need a lot of power to make up for a bad 60' time to hit 11's.

I saw a guy run a high 11, it was like 11.8x on street tires in his LS1 Camaro M6, short shifter, 3.73's or 3.42 (can't remember), LS6 intake, Mid-Length Headers, Y-pipe, and corsa, and a lil 100 dry shot.

Yup, it is no doubt risky. Honestly you are better off spending money on a 12 bolt, clutch and beefing up your tranny. Then you can throw on some sticky MT radials and go to the track as much as you want, have no worry about breaking and probably come damn close to 11's, at least deep in the 12's. Drivetrain mods dont sound as exciting as NOS but in the end it is worth it.

bolt ons and a 100 shot should atleast be bottom 11's.

but if you want to do it on a street tire then that would be a good recipe i guess.

there's barely any gain from 3.42's to 3.73's so i'd stick w/ the 3.42... and if you want to spray it you'll need a good clutch.

Exclamation

With what you have get a set of Nittos, launch her soft and you should go 11s with out a prob. With your bolt on mods I was low 12s on motor with my 6spd and nittos, my times with only BOLT ON's while not the fastest ever but on 17" SS wheels on all 4 corners was 12.10 at 114 with a 1.83 60ft on the 10 bolt with 3.42 gears.

Nitto's with some good driving would get you into the 11's a friend of mine with an LT1 H/C car with 4:10's ran a 11.8 with a six speed. He did go through a couple of rears though.

I think a 9 inch is a better choice from DLS, you never have to worry about it and if somehow you break it they are a pretty easy fix compared to the 12 and the S60. If you had an auto the 12 might be a better choice.

Nine inch, sticky rubber and a 100 shot you should be in the 11's but this is coming from a guy that ran 12.6's with a 400RWHP Z06. I'm hoping to get low 12's with my new car setup
