oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! 3,250 miles, majority highway driving...14,500 miles at time of oil change on my 2001 GMC truck with the 5.3L The analysis was done by Terry @ Dyson Analysis.

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! As I mentioned on Bob's site, this sample looks better than a recent 10w30 Syntec analysis!
It also proves that the 3k oil change interval is a thing of the past, this oil would easily make it to 5k, it's in great shape still.

I just put it in my 79,000 mile 5.3L truck. I used the 10W30. I usually run my oil around 5,000 miles or so since I do so much highway driving.

I went ahead and put Redline synthetic in since I get a nice price on it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I'm going to pull a sample of the Redline out at 5,000-5,500 miles. If it looks good, then I'll just leave it in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

and can you swap back and forth between a regular oil and synthetic? im runnin mobile 1 10w30, and have heard i couldnt go back (no intentions to, i might have to send some off to see how it looks....)

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! After breaking in my new cam, I just put the new Mobil 1 in there, after using Royal Purple for a long time.
The reason being, because since I did the head & cam in April. I have had the low oil light come on twice. I know I'm supposed to check the oil level, on a regular basis. I do, esp when I go racing. I did not check it as often on regular street driving. Still, there is no excuse for it dropping that low.
So I'm going to try this new Mobil out.
To you oil experts.. How often should I change the oil, when I am using nitrous? If it must be changed often, then would I be better off using plain dino? What is the best dino? Thanks.

normally about 1700-1900 miles..

car has 20K and never had dirty oil in it ever.

I am absolutely fanatical about the "blood" in my motor, so I feel that the traditional 3k interval is cheap insurance. Just my $.02...

With oil being a non-renewable resource, I think the least I can do is actually use my oil "up" and not change it just because that is what we "used to do."

I change my oil once every 5K, and all my oil samples have come back fine.

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! For those of you that think the 3k oil change is absolutely needed, check out Bob's message board that I posted above. There are a lot of oil analysis results on there where the oil isn't even close to worn out yet at 5k, 6k, and beyond. And there is very little contaminents in it too. Oils are better, engines are better, filters are better, so why stick to the old 3k interval that was dreamed up 20 years ago, and nowadays is only held onto as a cash cow for oil makers and Jiffy Lube?

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! i wouldn't change my oil every 3k or even earlier if it wouldn't get dirty for some odd reason. I do mostly street driving in San Francisco and close to afetr 2k miles oil becomes dark, dirty, i have no damn idea why
and yes, i was really pleased with Castrol GTX, even it is justa regular oil.

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! I've only used Castrol GTX for the last 3 years. I know a few 8-second car/engine builders that recommended it, and it was good enough for their cars.

Re: oil analysis results for Castrol GTX! Eyeballing an oil isn't going to tell you how well it's standing up after xxxx amount of miles. Just because the oil is darker does not mean that it's time to pull it out. The oil in my truck was quite a bit darker than when it was new, but this analysis shows that it could've gone quite a bit longer!
