Put some colored tubing under the hood, and use tire dressing to make all the rubber hoses look shiney...thats what I do...

There was an old saying back in the day that went "paint it,plate it or polish it" and its true today.. Remove every single item that you can and do something with it.. pick a theme and stick with it (mine is black carbon fiber and red accents).. the engine area is one place where its harder to go overboard so have fun

Oh, many of the parts are pretty easy to remove and send to the chrome shop.. unfortunatly lots are plastic and require a different approach.. Oh, and how you execute the details will make the biggest impact. Here is a pic of mine.. plus there is on in the sig..

I would try to polish the TB, I think that would look good.

I like Steve's stuff, but (no flames) I think he has too many plaques and stickers that are kind of the same, I would ditch 1/2 of them.

I'd looking into either powedercoating the valvecovers or getting covers. I have seen carbon fiber ones that looked sharp...

Also check out www.rksport they sell custom covers for various things...

John,

No offense takes ~~ a lot of car is trial and error and I always take critisim constructivly .. that said, I have the Mobil 1 emblem.. the hotchiks emblem.. the painted on SLP Car number deal and SLP on the air lid.. OH and the the Carbon Fiber LS1 emblem.. hmmm i guess i do have a few (but how are they similar?) .. the SLP on the air lid will be gone when my K&N FIPK arrives as will the CF LS1.. I will run the Hotchkis one since it was part of the deal when they did my suspension

Your engine compartment is one of the nicest I have ever seen, I think that having 2 SS things, and 2 SLP things is somewhat duplicative. You have a ton of stuff done, and I really like it all except the SS cover for the battery. It's way too big.

Bos, I had the guy next to HackerJoe powdercoat the covers.

Hey Gang. 1st time poster here on LS1tech.com. coming over from the SLP board.

My thoughts on engine dress up? I like the idea of picking a theme and sticking with it. I also say do what you want. I took several ideas that I had from stuff I'd seen and made mine...

Opinions?

Yea, I agree.. its the reason I have blank center caps on the wheels.. if someone dosent know its an SS by now then your hopeless

Actually the battery cover is just big enough to cover the factory delco battery.. its a love or hate thing but mostly people like it and its better looking than the battery.. it will be re-evaluated when I move to a optima battery

The SLP on the lid was there long before the "SS by SLP Car ####" was painted on.. i was going to remove it but the lid is going goodbye the and the buyer might like it on there. My current task is to find a way to re-route the wire harness on the passengers side so that it runs INSIDE the fender.. that should really clean up that area..

Thanks for the comments John

Steve, I take it all back. I looked at your engine pic again, and you have everything I have ever seen done + ideas I have + stuff I didn't think of. PROPS!

You could look at running the wires inside the fender area. Above the inner liners. Might have to extend a few wires.

Also the K&N FIPK setup looks really custom.

Or I would redo the stock airbox bottom in CF or paint it. I have seen two painted ones and they looked really good.

They started out black. monSSter1191 gave them to me and another friend painted them and cut them to fit. I think it looks better than stock. IMO

lol.. thanks John.. the FIPK should look really unique and the filter casing parts are carbon fiber.. i was thinking of either chroming the lower mounting plate (can you have too much chrome).. or having it covered in the Faux Carbon Fiber like my fuse boxes, front support and TCS Cover.. Once the unit get here I can evaluate it better..

On my old 67 it was easy to re-route the wires since GM left ya some slack.. not now adays. They are JUST long enough.. i guess GM saves on the cost of wire that way.. Im in the process of designing an extension harness so that it can be put back to stock if need be.. I just installed my new ported TB.. I painted it a cast iron metalic dark grey.. looks good. I was thinking of polishing it but the upkeep would be a nighmare ~~ when the LS6 intake goes on it will be powder painted in Pewter to match the car does it ever end???

Just so you know Steve the LS6 intake is plastic. So no powder coating. You could get it painted to match. I double checked mine after seeing a thread about it here, and yep PLASTIC. Might paint mine someday but not anytime soon.

EDIT- just noticed you said Powder Painted not Coated. What's that?

Rob, Yea I know its plastic but as long as it can stand being baked (@400 degrees i think) you could powder coat it (same as powder paint).. if not then I would just paint it.. the powder would hold up better though..

Yea, you ALREADY HAVE A LS6 Manifold!!! (jealous rage) but I dont so when I add one it will be not much more work to colorize it ~~ Did you get the boyds repolished yet??

I dropped the Boyds off last Friday and they are suppose to be ready this Friday for me to pick up. And I already talked to Wheel Warehouse about mounting and balancing them so I should be all set by middle of next week.

Dynoing this afternoon stock and getting the GMMG installed tomorrow.

Heres mine...
The volant filter gets mixed comments but I really like it. I switched the cheap filters it came with in favor of some power shots and it looks real cool to me. I have all the MBA engine parts which really compliment the color of the car. My favorite being the red anodized maf ends.

hope this gives you some ideas...
