And us GTO guys want different wheels.
Run a good search on JHP. They import parts from Australia. Check into the HSV wheel. It adds some curves to the wheel to hold on to and is still thick. It feels amazing in your hands. Much better than the plain old round GTO wheel.
The silver parts can be painted BTW, so that shouldn't be an issue, or you can tie the silver in as some have already mentioned.
The HSV wheel and other wheels don't have the silver. It's black leather like the wheel.
The GTO is telescoping, but the column is different than the F-Body column, and not for the better (major pain to get back in once you've had it out, the way the knuckle attaches in the bay is a MAJOR pain, I had to drop my steering rack and spend hours trying to get it back together whereas the F-Body is extremely simple).
Not to mention the wiring problems/issues.
Overall it would be a cool project, but I think I'd look more into a wrap or an aftermarket wheel and just get a harness bar, harnesses, and ditch the airbag all together.

I did alot of research on this, and i'm still considering doing it (06+ Z06 wheel) in my car. Here's what I know:
- The splines are the same in every case I looked at, this includes the 2005 C6 wheel, the 2007+ C6 wheel, the Grand Prix and GTO wheels.
- Every one of those wheels has a different bracket and depth than the f-body stock wheel. Each one will sit at a different spot depth-wise and each will require modifications to their metal and plastic backing to fit the f-body column. These modifications appear fairly easy in all cases except possibly the GTO wheel.
- You will need the corresponding clockspring from the vehicle who's wheel you are using.
- The airbag is the easiest part - all of the newer cars use a 2-stage airbag, the f-body has the older single-stage unit. You will simply cut off the old 2-wire harness and attach the 2-wire harness that goes with your wheel, then plug (the single plug) into the full-power (pink) airbag socket in the new wheel. You will then have a single-stage airbag.
- Steering wheel controls will be tough. My solution will be to do the steering wheel when I put in an aftermarket head unit...i will use the PAX adapter for 07+ C6, and simply match up colors (between the adapter and new wheel) using the existing steering column wires in between.

Ive been debating switching over my wheel from the 95' to the 00'. I like the smaller wheel and I dont need the steering wheel controls in the 00', I dont use them that much. 00+ wheels just seem so big and bulky, it takes away from the feel of the car.
+1 on the Saab or vette wheel for the switch.

There is a company that takes the factory saab wheels and modifies them. I am going to contact them about doing this to my t/a wheel. It looks awesome afterwards and is exactly what I'm looking to do.

Well, I'm talking with the guy who is doing this and will have details later. I spoke with a gentleman over there and explained to him that I could probably get a group of 5-10 people for sure who would be interested in this.
Beware, it isn't cheap. You could definitely buy a new steering wheel cheaper, but I want to keep my airbag and steering wheel radio controls, so this is the best option. The price for the Saabs was ~$375 to recover the wheel with thicker bolsters and thumb grooves at 10 & 2.
Edit: here's a pic of what my 9-3 wheel looks like now. I love it. I actually sometimes enjoy driving my 9-3 more because of the feel of the wheel.

Alright, I'm confused. What I thought was a firebird wheel circa 1998-2002 is also being called a Camaro steering wheel.

Can someone please post pics of the two so I can see the difference. Thanks.
