How can I get tree sap off my car safely?
I washed my car today and ran to the grocery store. When I came out I noticed that it had started to sprinkle. Well , it turns out that it wasn't rain. It was the row of pin oak trees dripping a mist of sap all over the cars on that row.How can I get it off? The car is covered in it.TIA.

Wash it first to get the dirt and grime off. Then use "kerosene" then rinse with water and wash again if nessesary. This will not harm the clear coat or any modern paint. The kerosene desolves the pine tar and also works great on road tar.

I appreciate the help and I bet one of these two methods will work. It's gonna be an all day affair, but as long as it comes off. Anyone know where I can pick up a small amount of Kerosene in town? A hardware store maybe? Thanks.

Whenever the trees where i spark spray my car, i just wash it with normal car wash stuff. The smaller stuff comes off rather easily. If that doesnt work, use kerosene. Its cheap, and wont harm the paint. Best thing is not to let it stay on there long.

Hey James, how's the SS now that you have a converter?
As for your question, if you wash the car quickly after this happens, oftentimes the sap will come off with a normal wash. I had this happen to my SS, and I just swung by the carwash with my Zaino soap and wash bucket. I did a regular wash on it, and all of it came off with no problem or hard scrubbing. If this doesn't pull it off, then I'd go through the trouble of the WD-40 or kerosene.

Well believe it or not I rounded up the kerosene and washed the car first a not to scratch the surface during the sap removal and when I finished drying off the car , all the sap was gone. Boy was that a relief. It turns out that it was actually secretions from some type of bug that harvest in oak trees. The secretions just disolve with water. It looked like someone had poured honey all over my car. When it was dry it was very difficult scratch off. Kind of like super glue.
