Rollcage getting fabricated, have interior questions
Im getting a 5 or 6 pt Rollbar fabricated in my 2002 Z28...
Since Im doing this, Im gonna also change out my seats ( I have Arizen seats already for the car)....
Im also gonna recarpet the car, what do you all recommend that I use? Id liek to save some weight, but it is a Daily driver and Im already killing it with a rollbar, I dont wanna make this an uncomfortable car, I will be using it to go to college, work, long drives, daily places, etc... So Along with that question, I also wanna know if someone makes door panels that will clear the cage...
Any info in this thread is appreciated... I have multiple questions and am uncertain of a lot...
what kind of carpet to get?
should I remove the sound deadening?
door panels remove? and if I must cant I just cut the part that the cage is gonna go though?
who makes aftermarket panels that can clear? (if anyone?)
should I remove the rear passenger side panels to get a wider cage? and if so, what can I do to replace them or what options do I have???
What is a NHRA 5 pt cage supposed to look like? (The shop knows , but maybe Ill get a better idea of what to do if I know)...(I am getting the rear harness bar to run a 5 pt harness, what length seatbelts is common for these cars?(im getting a seatbelt with a camlock)..
what are ways I can save weight throughout this process, with maintaining a daily driver car appearance...( I dont wanna gut everything!!)
------------------------------------------
also after the rollcage Im gonna change my pedals, remove my airbags and also change the steering wheel... so any info on those will help also, but the first part is my main concert at this time...
---------
I know my questions are plenty and not so clear, but slowly step by step, Im hoping replies can be helpful to this matter...

for something like this look in the drag racing section and you will find hundreds of ways to save weight. as for carpet i recommend putting some dynamat down on the floor and putting ozite over it. and if your getting a good cage or the builder is good they should be able to make the cage work around your factory door panels or you can opt for swing outs. my 25.5 setup has x braces where the doors are and i did no modifications to the door panels. ever builder is a ltitle different and will do their cages different. ask them for pics of their cages.

I knew I wouldnt get much responses, since my questions are hard to answer (I dont even know 100% what Im asking myself)...
The people fabricating my rollcage mostly work on BMWs, but they ARE good fabricators...
I will let them know that it can be done... As for the cage being wider, would that, then affect the door panels??
Also disregard the weight savings part, it isnt a priority question... My main priority is what I gotta move to put the cage and such... If nothing, then Im happy...
Also is dynamat what they use for sound deadening and isnt it heavy? Id still like carpet feel, but if dynamat is light and will help with heat protecion and minor sound insulation, then i may consider that...
thanks

You don't have to move anything to put a cage in. You can run the rear bars right to deck area, or to the wheel wells with the bars going through the rear speakers. You will have to remove the rear speakers if you go the route. I would check into Wolfe racing, the have cages on sale right now. I got one for 650 shipped, bolt in, 6pt, powder coated black. All i have to do is remove carpet drill holes in the floor and install.

These guys are fabricataing the whole cage ,from DOM steel...
I will let them know that nothing has to be removed permanently for them to do teh work, but I guess the rear speaker panels do while they weld it in, correct??
well that saves a lot of pain, but Im still gonna replace my carpet, because its ripped... and change the pedals as well as relocate my battery... and a seatbelt..( I think thats it for now)...

Sounds like an interessting project you have there. As mentioned earlier a good cage builder can build around your interior, so you dont have to move any thing.
About the other mods, are you gona put a seat that suports 5p harness?
I will run my Arizen and put a Sparco "3 4p harness. Later I Probobly will build a cage but not right now.
Have a look att my steeringwheel, Its suede and raly nice grip in it. The car got so mutch beter stering responce when i put that one in.

Here's the information you're looking for about NHRA legal.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...rness-etc.html
I seriously recommend a swing out for the driver side bar for any 4th gen f-body driven on the street. It's still NHRA legal and can be removed for street driving.

dynamat can be heavy depending on how many layers you put but if you switch to light weight carpet you make up for it. im just running a single layer and ozite over it. also if you want to save yourself some money remove the carpet and stuff yourself and then leave the interior trim pieces in and they can work around them.
