ET Streets/Drags on a daily driver?
Anyone running Streets or Drags on a daily driver? I have a hard time hooking up my nittos with 3.73's and a sy 3500, with rolling into the throttle and a long burnout. I will be going with a stage 2 h/c setup and FLP tranny and probably a moser rear, so the drivetrain should be pretty solid. Ive heard from a few people ET Drags dont need a big burnout to hook up great, and I think Raughammer mentioned that he has a hard time breaking loose the Drags. Whats the diff between the streets and drags, just softer compound? What kind of miles do you think these tires would last on the street? Thanks!

You are completely nuts if you plan on ET Streets for a daily-driver. Even the slightest damp road and you will be in the ditch or on the guardrail. They suck that badly when its wet out.
ET Streets last longer at the track than ET Drags, probably twice as long.

Yea 1 drop of water on those and its spin city...nittos are bad, I don't even want to think of what it would be like on et streets...
Hrm..I have heard people saying it being wet outside makes them spin all over the place over 30 mph, but you guys make it sound like its REALLY bad. My nittos are just fine in the rain, prolly better than stock street tires. So should I just try and get some 15" rims and put 275 nittos on the back, or would 17" 315's make more traction? Is there another tire anyone can recommend? Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.

If yer gonna do daily driver tires, and you can't hook up on nittos, get some bigger ones. Get some 17x11s in the back with 315/35/17 nittos. If that's not enough, try BFG DRs. They will hook even better, but are less street friendly than the nittos, and wear out in NO time. However, even those are 100x better than running ET streets for daily driving.
I'm pretty sure with ET streets or drags, whenever it gets cloudly you'll probably start losing control

I agree that you'd have to be nuts to daily drive on ET Streets. For one, they're very soft, and are likely to pick up debris (nails, screws, glass, etc) - and you cannot patch/plug them, you must go to tubes. Shoot, I have a set of ET Streets mounted on regular salad shooter rims, and I have never driven them on the street, and never plan to. I'd like to keep them 'tubeless' as long as I can.
As for Nittos in the rain, I run them. New, they're great - I was in a helluva rainstorm in Memphis last year, never got worried about them - they felt fine, although I drove 'within limits'. Once they get bald, well, they'd be as bad as any bald tire.
If it were me, I'd go for a second set of wheels, with ET Streets mounted on them. Wait, I did that.

I have been driving 98% of the time on ET Streets since October. I don't drive my car that much during winter.
In rain I go about 25mph. Maybe slower.
I used to have 275-50-15 Nitto DR's and they were okay... But yeah they'll never hook like ET Streets.

I'm with John and Scott. I have driven almost a thousand miles to and from local strips in the last couple of months with no problems.
And, when feeling particularly lazy, I don't put the run craps back on if I am going to race on consecutive week-ends.
Having said that, I did try driving these on a day when we had a light drizzle. I made it down the block and felt the rear-end slipping out. I gently drove it back into the driveway - waited for a lull in the rain and put on my run craps.
I will NEVER run ET Streets in the rain again. If I get caught away from home I will pull over, check into a hotel, and wait for the storm to pass while hoping that they have great room-service!

Umm, slow down Hot Rod.. I realize your trying to break some kind of post count record.. but at least get the content right.
I think a good set of Nitto's are BETTER in the rain than F1's.

Why did you say that, my content was right, and nittos are better in the rain IF they are new, if the tread is starting to go, they suck....

I have driven on all of the Nittos. They are almost as good as F1's.
ET Streets, well, I have driven in rain with them a number of times. It's very dangerous. I am very careful. Even so I once took two hours to drive 30 miles.
And they can pick up junk.
My car has been sitting for long periods of time so I have not put radials back on, but I will more and more like I used to.

I agree with John...I drove my car around on ET Streets/skinnies all of the time and never really had a problem.
I drove it a few times in the rain and had to be very careful, but I was never really scared that I was going to crash.
I plan on being on ET Streets most of the time once it goes back together

Does anyone know how long ET Streets will last if you use them for the street? My car is garage kept, and only makes it out on very nice days, and is not my primary vehicle, so I'm not really worried about using them in the rain. Will they last longer than BFG DR's? Seems like my DR's wear down pretty darn quick.
WeatherGuy, im running 245/50/16 nittos and they dont hook up much from a stop at all. I am not putting down much power at all so I dont see why they are breaking loose so much. With 235 stock tires I could sometimes chirp 3rd with the converter and 3.73's, but with the dr's I cant even chirp second. But still all of first gear is basically no traction, if I roll into it the launch usually bogs down. I might put down as much rwtq as you with h/c and a 75 shot, but I wont be spraying off the line so if your 422 is holding up with 315 nittos on the street..that might be the way to go for me. Do your nittos hook up pretty well on the street, are they 17 or 15" rims? Anyone fender rolling or wheel well banging to make them fit? Thanks!

FYI, I drove in rain again today. Not a downpour.
25-35mph MAX. AT 35mph the back of the car starts to oscillate...
Even when wipers were on the lowest intermittent setting, they were wagging...
ET Streets, well my buddy did like 4,000 mies on his.

Bah, maybe ill just get some et streets on some 15" rims and throw em on when I go out to races round here. 4k miles is plenty for me. I just need em to do 100-150 miles a night cruising around. Do you get much better traction on the street with them PSJ? At a tossup right now with 315/15 nittos and 26" et streets.
No comparison on the street.
ET Streets hook much better on the street.
Heck my old 28x9x15 ET Drags would occasionally dead hook. But those are slicks. REALLY sucked on the highway.

Nittos are VERY good in the rain. On the 315/35/17s on my car, I can drive seventy on a wet road and/or in the rain with no problems as long as there is not a significant amount of water ponding. I also once stood on my brakes at 30 MPH to see if I could lock them up (errr, kick in the ABS) on a wet road. I stopped nosebleed hard without a hint of lockup.
Though I can't go back and check, I think these Nittos are better than the original stock tires I had on wet roads. Very, very surprising.
Dan, what size Nitto DR were you running? I've hade no problems with the 315s.

I am currently wondering whether to run bfg drag radials on mine (275-40-17's) or to get a set of salad shooter rims at a junkyard and et streets to put on for a night out on the town street racing. I am leaning toward the et streets! I am not worried about getting caught in the rain, I will just go very slow.
in my case bfg drags in 275/40/17
OR
get et streets and salad shooter rims????
