Default LG Motorsport Aluminum Pedals Suck! Almost got me killed...

I bought a set of Manual G2 Racing Pedals from LG Motorsports and installed them per the instruction on my 2002 SS.

The problem I noticed at first was that you are supposed to take off the rubber stock pads off the clutch and brake pedal and then drill two holes through the pedal and then bolt on the G2 pedals using two small 1/8 bolts with lock washers. The probelm is that the clutch and brake pedal are curved and the racing pedals are flat. So no matter how tight you make the bolts holding the pedals on, there was still some play to them when you would step on the pedals.

I called LG Motorsports and they said there is no problem and even though the pedal is curved, there is never any issues with them.

Well after having them on 1 week, I was sitting at a light about to drive away. I had my clutch pedal pushed to the floor and shifted into 1st gear. I have a Cartek Stage III clutch and it never slips, so you have to rev the car up over 1500 RPM and then ease the clutch out to start moving, otherwise you will get some cam overlap and your car will buck a little.

So I brough the RPMs up to about 1700 and started to ease the clutch out, when the bolts hold the clutch pedal on broke. The aftermarket G2 pedal slid off of the clutch pedal since it was metal on metal and very slippery, and my foot fell off the clutch, essentially dumping the clutch pedal at 1700 RPM from a standstill. I have almost 440 RWHP and I have a torque arm, so my car started laying wheels and hooked on the Nittos and pushed the front end up a little.

I almost hit the car that was changing into my lane from the entrance ramp of a shopping center. I quickly pushed the clutch pedal back in as soon as I could and the car settled right down.

Needless to say, that scared the crap out of me. I called up LG Motorsports today and they told me that they have no history of anything like that happening.

So now I am out the money for the pedals, and I am affraid to ever use them again.

Can anyone recommend some really nice and safe Aluminum racing pedal overlays?

Thanks,

Dan

Man that sux! Scares me enought to rethink getting pedals for my car....

I've heard good things about srpracing.com's pedals... take a gander. I think they are the same pedals Steve has on his 2000 pewter SS.

Steve?

Well if they are well made then not only do they provide better grip than the stock hard rubber ones but a better design of the gas pedal can aid in "heel toe" braking

I have the ones from SP Racing.. cost was like $70 for the whole set.. They have been on the car over a year and have never needed to be tighten and have performed well at numerous tracks.. Oh, and they are curved to match the metal pedals..

I dont remember their website but their phone is 704-795-9551 .. very nice people that make an excelent product.. Oh, and as a bounus you can get them that say SS or Z28!!

Mine are really cheap stuff from Autozone but they have last over 2 years now without a slip up. They bolted right over the factory pieces and required just a bit of trimming. The wide pedals and thicker bases make heel/toe so much easier too! For $20, I figured it was worth a shot. I have some pics in the sig, but ther might be some better shots here..

I've had mine on for almost 2 years, and I never had a problem... They might not be the best in the world, but if installed right, shouldn't be a problem.

I have the Lg motorsport pedals too. The gas pedal and brake pedal are perfect. But the clutch pedal is a different story. The first set of holes I drilled were just a bit off, damn clutch pedal kept getting loose. SO I drilled a second set of holes..lined up pretty good..and the clutch pedal stayes put..but every now and then gotta get down there and tighten the sucker. I wish I would have went with the SRP pedals though. Too late now..I have 4 holes in my clutch pedal!

I have the billet set from MBA. They are a bit pricey but the quality more than makes up for it. The pedals are two pieces that lock together around the stock pedal. There is never any issues with them being the slightest bit loose or coming off. The finish is excellent as well. The only one that requires drilling is the gas pedal. I was lazy and decided to use some heavy duty epoxy and just glue it on and so far the bond is rediculously strong. I dont think I could pull it off if I tried...lol..

I highly recommend these pedals to anyone looking for a set.

What happened with yours is kinda scary. Did they offer to refund your money or anything like that?

Sweet job on them man but you can still see the "Corvette" a little.
