Doesn't that inihibit airflow into the engine slightly?

Very creative, but I feel it cheapens the look of the car unless it is sitting in a display booth at a large car show. Kind of makes me think "punk kid" when I see neon or weird lighting on a car. Just my opinion. BTW, I had neon inside my Ranger when I was a punk kid

I doubt that it impedes airflow at all. The only part that is in the possible airflow path is the small 1"x3" project box, but even it is behind the center portion of the nostrils, where air doesn't flow directly anyway.

Tony, all opinions respected. I can understand your point, but I feel that it makes a good accent, similar to colored hood stripes. I don't generally have the lights on when driving. Only in the neighborhood and local places I go.

Slammed, I don't know why you're getting red x's? I tried from work and got the pictures?

Russ

Alpine: it's not the tube's being visible that's illegal, it's the color. You can't have blue light showing on your vehicle because it could be confused as an emergency vehicle.

I think blue and red are the only illegal colors to do that with. That's what i heard from a local cop. Nice accent on the car though. I wouldn't personally do it, but I also have a Z28. As long as you like it and don't get caught, that's all that counts.

Hey kudos for at least using the search feature (which so many people completely ignore).

Just take note of the date of the post

But to answer your question, cathode bulbs generally run at like 600V so yes, the little inverter box is needed to convert 12V DC to that 600V AC.

Wow, back from the dead As has already been mentioned, yes you need to use the transformer.

As an update, It's 7yrs later and the cold cathode tubes are still going strong. Never had a problem with them and they're still as bright as the day I installed them. I have to admit I'm surprised they've lasted this long. I just passed 100k on the odometer

Sorry the pics are gone, but that was a very old host and I don't think they're in business anymore. I'll try to upload them to this post.

what if the volts match isnt everything 12v (input voltage on inverter 12v--outputvoltage of inverter 680v--those our the volts of my cathodes-- what if i dont add the transformer?
