Default Wired my stereo today, some questions..

I ran the power wire (8 gauge) from the battery, through the firewall, down the passenger side. I ran the wire right along side an existing loom of wires. I think they are for the factory amplifier. I ran my RCA cables and remote wire down the drivers side the same way, along side an exixting loom of wires. My speaker wires (12 gauge) run from my amp on the deck under the carpet to the 12" stealthbox on the drivers side.

My question are:

1. Should I remove all the wiring from the factory amp?

2. Will running my power wire and RCA cables so close to those other wires cause interference?

3. Were is a good spot to ground (10gauge) to the body?

Thanks!
Justin

Run the rca's on the opposite side of the car from the power. At most, they should only cross the power wire at a 90 degree angle. As for grounding, use atleast the same guage as your power so 8 guage. It can be grounded anywhere in the rear, just sand away the paint whereever you decide. The factory amp wiring wont hurt anything unless you are a diehard weight savings kinda guy.

Thanks, I'll leave the stock wiring in just incase I ever sell my stereo stuff.

Is ther any easy way to get wires run from in the car to in the doors? I've tried feeding it through the rubber sleeve but it always gets caught up. Is there a trick to it?

Were is a good place to mount my crossovers?

Thanks,
Justin

Justin did you try to take the rubber boot out?? It should come out. Well at least I got one to come out on a Chevy pickup. Never tried it on my car.... I'll check around with some stereo people I know tomorrow... Till then this will be a TTT for ya man.

The easiest way i found was to open the door all the way and then feed the wire through by taping it to a coat hanger and guiding it through. Took me all of a minute to do it that way. For the crossovers, just mount them behind each kick panel.

I tried mounting them behind the kickpanels but they don't fit. They are Focal 165k2s and are just barely too big. Any other places?

If you don't mine giving up the space, there is enough room for the passenger side in the glove box, and the driver's side can also be in the glove box, or it could be under the dash on the driver's side. There should be plenty of room for your crossovers there because that is where my brother contemplated putting his crossovers for a diamond audio hex set.
Now, I have never run wires through the door on this car, so I have no idea there, but at least it is a TTT for ya!

Justin,

For running wires into the doors, the easiest way is to pop the rubber tubing/grommet out, feed the wires through and then pop them back into place. It's kinda funny your putting stuff in and I am (as I write this) taking all my stuff out... I always run my main power and remote turn on lead down the pass side door sill and my signal and speaker wires down the drivers side.

Easy rules to follow:
Keep all signal wires as far away from power and ground wires as possible. If they must cross make them cross at 90 degree angles.

All grounds should be at LEAST the same gauge as power and as short as possible. Try to ground all components to the same spot if possible to avoid ground differentials (noise.)

You should have a fuse in the power wire no more than 18" from the battery.

Always make sure your antenna is grounded well.

If you need any help, just shoot me an email. I've installed this stuff for over 15 years and would be happy to help you out. Grab me nest time you're at Thunder and I'll show you what I've begun transplanting from my SS to my truck...

Shane

BTW I left all my factory wiring as is for a reason... It sure is making it easy to put the stock stuff back in...

Thanks! Looks like I need to pick up some thicker ground wire and an inline fuse. I also read somewhere that the wireing for the crossovers ahould not be more then 14 inches. I may just end up putting them in my door pockets.

Yeah dude!!! get a fuse ASAP. I've seen a car BURN to the ground...

You can put each crossover under the dash and be fine. I put mine just above the kick panel on each side. I don't like putting them in the doors because they sometimes get wet.
