Carpet was $35 plus shipping, a sheet of plywood, a 6' 1" x 6", strip of aluminum, and some contact cement. I had the 1" x 2" stiffeners laying around. Maybe $75 to $100.

That looks really good. I'd rather have some sort of storage if you're going to cut out that much space. There's a huge void under the wood that could be used for storage. I like the flat one's better myself, but yours looks incredible.
