Default Anybody Have a Car Tent/Port?

Hey guys,

anyone have a car tent or a car port that they use to store their car? We have a big white tent that we put in the driveway on the 4th of July. I used as a "garage" for my car, but it was easily moved by the wind, and we had weights on each leg of the tent.

So does anyone use one, and if so how do they keep it in place? I know you can drill it into the ground, but I doubt my parents want to do that to the concrete driveway.

For reference, one of these:

Thanks everyone

i had one before the wind took it and moved it 100ft not before ripping a two inch gash into my 4 wheeler seat
snapped the corner brace in half, thats what happens when only one side is secured down right
had my car in it but took it out thank god

the best way i could think of securing it is digging a hole into the ground and sticking a pipe thats wide enough to fit the legs into and use a pin to secure and you could take it out and only have a 2" hole in the ground if you dont mind

I know what you mean man. Two years ago, our picked up from the backyard and flew over the fence into the driveway. LUCKILY there were no cars in the driveway. I just spoke with my dad and he said he made new weights for them, so hopefully they'll work. And hopefully they'll let me keep it up to store my car in haha. Thanks for the other idea, I could do that along with the weights.

i used one for about 1 or 2yrs. i had to replace the door, and the roof was disintegrated by the time i got my use out of it. i had to flap a 10x20 tarp over the roof, because there was at least 20sq ft of open holes in it. if you do use one, make sure you get a quality one. you do get what you pay for in these things.

you absolutely need to drill it down. if youre worried about it, get a proper hammer drill, and what are called 'shield' or 'drop in anchors'. get 3/8 size, youll need a 1/2 drill bit. you drill into the ground, drop the shields in, hammer in the right size set, and screw in either a threaded rod or the right length 3/8 bolt. even just one on each leg will be enough, but with 2 or 3, the tarp will shred before the wind ever moves it.

if you want to take it down, you unscrew the bolt/rod, and all you have left is a small 3/8 threaded hole in the ground that no one will ever see, and can be filled or patched easily.

they have these bubble things you can keep your car in, but it wouldn't be practical if you drive it everyday. they are pretty sweet though.

for a tent like that, i've seen people fill up small buckets with cement, and leaving a hole in the middle so you can stick the tent legs in there. should be fine in the wind.

I think he is refering to a carcoon.

www.carcoon.co.uk

but they are meant to keep dust off the car for indoor storage..... not meant for outside use.

You know, I've actually thought about that before. Only I didn't know it actually existed. That is pretty damn cool, but I gotta say it could be kinda weird seeing that in the driveway LOL. I'll check it out, thanks man.

Edit: Holy **** those are expensive!

I've got one too. Can't afford a real garage right now so it will have to do. I love it though, Keeps it dry and a shady place for me to work on it if needed. Mine is not tied down or anything. I live in a small mountain and the wind only blows the tops of the trees. Here is a pic of mine:
