I have seen some amazing engine bays on here. I was curious on how to polish some of the pieces that I have seen under the hood.

What Sandpaper Grit are you guys using to polish the metal? 500,1000, 2000?

What is the Process that you guys have been using? Thanks for the help guys

Also curious. The only write up I've ever been able to find is this one:

I haven't gone to town with polishing or anything, but I've hit my brake lines and AC with some polish. I'd probably suggest getting some BlingMaster and hitting everything.

If you really want to get crazy, probably follow this write up:

There is not ALLOT under there to polish. Most of my stuff is chromed. You can do the AC lines, condensor, ABS and brake lines, MAF, TB, and the valve covers. I start with 800, then go 1000, then 1500, 1500 wet, and then 2000 and 2000 wet...then finish with a good metal polish.

I did a couple of things, such as the SLP tower brace, and the radiator tube. Started with 150 wet paper, the 3m good stuff. Then 200, then 300, then 500, then 600, then 800, then 1000 and 2000. Then the mothers billet metal polish. One thing I learned was to wear the clear gloves to keep the black stuff off of the pieces you are cleaning. I may have added exta steps but I did them at work and had to drive the car home. The best polish work I have seen is the guy named Billyb who has a firehawk and Joshua who had a firehawk! Both guys have good tips. There are others with some great advise that have done it also.
My son had done a clip while messing with his new camera.

They did a lot of mine as well, Chrome all you can if you show a lot. It makes it a whole lot eaiser than polishing. I just hit it mine with Windex and its ready.

I went to Colorado Custom Chrome today, they are like 8-10 blocks from my house and he said they could chrome everything for me.
Here is the list, let me know if there is anything I am missing that can be done. This is for my WS6.
1. Hood Hindges
2. Hood Release
3. Headlight Support
4. Shock Support attached to hood
5. Hood Latch
6. Both Valve Covers (can they be chromed?)
7. Both Coil Pack Brackets
8. Anything Else???

100% true.

Chroming is big $$$, I was shocked when I started getting quotes. But I would say it's worth it, god it looks good.

Lets see what else besides whats listed....

Bumber supports
Headlight assemblies
Pulleys (you have to get some some after market ones and a 98 water pump since its the only one you can take the pulley off of)
AC brackets
Alt brackets
PS pupm bracket
Tensioner (I went with a after market one and had it chromed)
Intake (aftermarket)
throttle cable bracket
coolant lines
engine covers
thermostat housing
PS cooler
Master cylinder cover (looks better than polished with all the chrome)
STB
STB brackets
hood lift pins
all the engine caps (for the same reason as the MC cover)

AND then you can start with the suspension.....

Expect to have $8-10K in the chrome alone.

He said under $300 for all of those items. What should I expect???

97Ramsst-
I thought the front bumper support was plastic???

Also Will it mess up the MAF, If i have it chromed. I mean, taking it apart and then having it chromed. will it mess anything up?

Where did you get the pullies at? website

He is not chroming all that for $300. The hinges cost me $350 alone. The valve covers were $125 each...and so on. There is a TON of prep work involved with it...there is NO WAY he can do it for $300. It should be $1250 to $1500 for just what you have listed....even at a quanity discount, if its done right.

The bumber support is plastic (I painted it) but the hood latch supports are metal (see the pics)....thats what I was talking about.

You have to piece all that stuff together...its taken me a couple years to get all of it. If you could just go order it everybody would have it. I have a Turn One PS pulley, a 98 Water Pump, a Sinister Alt Pulley, I dont know who made the tensioner pulley...and the rest are factory ones I had chromed.

Yeah, I think I am going to check back with him later this week just to make sure we are on the same page for what the total cost is going to be.

You have done a great job with that car, every time a buddy comes over and we talk cars. I show him pics of your ride!
