Default Thinking about swapping over to LT1 tailights...

I know I’ve seen a couple pics of ’98 and up Firebirds and T/As with the older LT1 style taillights. I’m wondering what is involved in doing this swap? Are they just a direct swap in? Or does any modification need to be made to the wiring harness? Also, does it matter what year LT1 they come from?

EDIT: Also, does the middle “trans am” piece (where the hatch key hole is) have to be replaced as well?

I don't understand why you would want to?! The LT1 taillights are Not to mention they all separate and get air and water inside them. Of course it's just my opinion, but I have never seen LTi lights that didn't "separate". As far as I know, it's a straight bolt-in and the rear filler is not REQUIRED

I’m just getting a little tired of the honeycombs I guess...

I think the LT1 lights look a little less overwhelming due to the reflector portion on the bottom making the taillight portion it’s self smaller.

Just looking to do something different with the lights that still looks factory. I’m not into blackouts on these cars really, so this seemed like a good idea. Can’t say that I’ve ever noticed them separating though

Don't know how TAs are, but I swaped a set of 94' tail tail lights onto my 01' Z28. The only thing was the new plugs need to be "worked" into the hole (they are a little bigger so I had to open the hole up on the tail light).

Well, I've seen a bunch of LT1 cars with honeyconbs running around, so it must be pretty easy.

I’m still debating the idea. We’ll see what happens. I just don’t want to have to make any changes to the wiring harness incase I choose to go back is all, but it’s good to know that you’ve seen this done as well. Probably no changes needed.

Again though, has anyone on here actually done it?

you dont even need tools to do it, all wingnuts..
the middle peice is separate, just sandwiched under each tailight... very easy..maybe 10 minutes for both.

if you get the lt1 lights, let me know, ill buy the honeycombs... email me.

I'm still thinking it over, I will e-mail you if I deceide to sell the honeycombs.

I have never seen it done, but ne thing is possible. No offense, but I don't see the point in it, the lt1 headlights are by far the ugliest lookin lights on a sports car, but to each his own. But ne ways, post pics when your done, I have never seen this done before.

They are direct swap.I was going to put the honeycombs on my lt1.I think the honeycombs look way cooler than the lt1.I don't like the bug eyed look of the back up lights though..its too bad the last year didn't have honeycombs with blacked out backup lights factory.I would have jumped on those..each to his own I guess.if you like the lt1 taillights then fine..just buy them and like was said they bolt right on..no problems.
