Default Removing sap

Parked the car underneath some evergreens about 2 weeks ago. I was washing it last night and I noticed sap on the hood in 2 spots. I scrubbed and scrubbed with the soap and water and a lot of it came off, but not all. It's still pretty tacky, but again, it's been there for some time. Do you all have any tips/tricks/products to recommend getting this crap off completely? It's really bothering me, although not really noticeable, but I still know it's there. I refuse to use a razor like someone recommended. That's just asking to mess up the paint/finish.

Thanks,

Adam

Turpentine is the actual pine sap solvent, refined.
Mineral spirits is mighty close.

Use Oops Multi Purpose Remover. I use it all the time, it works instantly. Apply a small amount on a micorfiber cloth and wipe clean. You will need to rewax the areas you apply the product to but the Oops is the quickest way to remove tree sap, road tar, road paint etc.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

RE: Clay bar - if I do this in one spot, does the entire hood need to clay barred at least to look the same?

i have wax on my car and just use a meguiar's touch up spray. the spray along with a little elbow grease takes it right off. I was doing this yesterday for some sap and it all came off!

Not necessarily, it will remove the tree sap as well as other unseen contaminates. If you have time, clay bar the entire car, b/c when you feel the results of the clay bar with the tree sap and if you do the entire hood, you will probably want to finish the entire car.

A couple of clay bar tips.
Use only 1/3 or half the clay bar to start with, save the other half in a ziplock storage bag just in case you drop it. The bag will help keep the other half from collecting dust and losing it's moisture.

Use plenty of lubricant, have some detail spray on hand or very diluted car wash and water in a spray bottle if you run out while doing the entire car.

Go in in the same direction over the entire car.

After you're done, seal the entire car with a high gloss sealant, Zaino, Sunburst Sealant from Tropi-care, your choice.

Had this happen a few days ago.

Peeled the top layer of it off mostly by hand and then applied Automotive Goo-Gone with a microfiber. It works.

If you spray a light coat of Fluid Film over the paint and rub it in like a wax, the tar won't stick the same next time it happens.
