i know there was a thread awhile back about a "mod" to fix the damn trunk release that sticks when you pop the trunk. and i cant friggin find it. anyone know what it was?

and what im talking about is you hit the trunk release but it just pops and doesnt fully release. its still latched. you have to go back and pull up on it while hitting the button again to open it.

 

and 3 minutes later i find it....well here you go for anyone else whos pissed off about this.

haha mine does the same ****, luckily i rarely drive the car and never use the trunk but it does suck if you need to use it often.

EDIT: wow, the fix is simple.. I might as well do it.

 

I'm definetly doin this come Saturday. Mine is like a 50/50 split as to weather or not it'll work the first try & it never works when I really need it to.

 

I piggy-backed the spring on mine and has been working great for 2+ years.

 

mine will be fixed in a couple hours! im not dealing with this pos anymore!!!! muahahaha (evil laugh)

 

yup that works like a charm i did mine about 6 months ago opens every time

 

Instead of piggy-back, i replaced the stock spring with the one recommended on the Black Camaro site. I did it some years ago and it still works well.

 

I hate it, mine does it to. I always forget until I go to pop the hatch.

thank you. i just did it and i can def see it being a major improvement. i dont think ill have aaaannnnyyyy more issues. i used a 3/4" x 2 5/8" spring. bit of a tug to get it on.

 

Did you get the spring from home depot?

 

Thanks for reminding me to do this mod! I meant to do it a while ago & just forgot about it. We don't open the hatch that much on the TA, so it just slipped my mind. Got mine fixed this afternoon.

To the above poster. I got my spring from lowes. It is 1/2" x 2 5/8". Believe me, that is sufficient. (I piggy-backed mine as well)

 

got it at lowes. i went way over kill on it. but i dont care it wont happen anymore and it cost $2.

 

Good fix! And I've always wondered if I was the only one trying twice for the hatch to open right..... hehehe!

 

Thanks, you don't need both springs though right? You remove the old and replace it with the lowe's spring? If it's "overkill" then I don't see a need to piggyback.

 

I did that mod a few years ago and it worked like 3 times and that's it

 

i popped mine 10 times tonight just for the hell of it and so far so good.

 

for those of you who still have the problem after you piggy back the spring, replace the hatch shocks.

and to keep your shocks as healthy as possible, don't slam your trunk down to close it.
