Default Easiest TA Interior Mods

I'm looking into buying a 99 Trans Am - love the exterior, hate the interior. I know you don't buy these cars for luxurious interiors, but what are some cheap interior mods you can make? 99's have the gray interior which just doesn't look as good as black... do seat covers in the 50 dollar range look ok or like crap?

Wrapping the interior changes it drastically. No more cheap plastic feel and with french seams, added luxury look. You can get all kinds of materials from places like JoAnn's fabric.

I havent seen any pictures of completed wrapped interiors with french seams.

Pictures?

I dont know that I would want the interior of my car to feel like a big couch.

Subtle because the thread is color matched to the vinyl he used, but the whole dash was wrapped, then gauge bezel was wrapped, and the under-windshield dash part (I don't know what to call it) was also wrapped.

Taken from Officermartinez's thread...

wrapping looks difficult - how much would chrome wraps cost? that sounds easy.

what about for the seats? not a huge fan of the gray seats, but i'm on a budget. Just suck it up i guess?

Here's some what I've done to spruce up my interior:
  • Silver cloth door panel inserts
  • Silver cloth arm rest cover
  • Silver painted vent rings
  • Leather Auto Shift Boot

You can see pics of my interior here:

chrome wraps? wtf are you talking about. Sounds like you should have bought a honda civic and put american racing seat covers on it. There are NO cheap things to do to the trans am interior. PERIOD. You get what you pay for.. if you don't like the grey interior you could swap over an interior from a newer trans am which would be ebony/black. That is very expensive as well.

here is what I did, I have the chrome vent rings purchased from boyd on this forum. I have white gauge overlays from someone a lot cheaper than any site sponsors. I also had my headrests custom embroidered. I used to have chrome HVAC ***** but I never really liked those. Shift **** with chrome button is in the mail. One of my favorite things I had on my old firebird was the "firebird" humount, got a lot of compliments from that, I also had a triple gauge pod on that car. Here are pics of both my current car and my old one for some ideas. Like I said before, aside from the gauge overlays that I paid like 40 bucks for, nothing else is all that cheap.

LOL, I'm just guessing here, but I'm pretty sure he meant the chrome vent rings, probably just a typo.... If the car were mine, I'd just change everything over to black and go from there. Do alot of research, and find pictures of "custom" interiors. I really like the stock interior of my W. Never been a fan of overly done or too busy interiors, clean and simple is always the best. Just little things like the old school chrome hurst stick and white ball **** is all I've done. Good luck with your car!

If you wrap the whole dash with leather, how is the air bag supposed to work?

Ya, but the example shown the whole dash is wrapped as one... so if the air bag was to deploy nothing would happen. LOL

The same way they do it from the factory. Seperate pieces.

it could create a paradox that will unravel the very fabric of the space time continium and destroy the entire universe.....or it might just rip the upholstery off the dash

In this case, he removed the factory passenger airbag in the end.

For my purposes, I have no need for it. So, I decided to leave the connector unconnected.

Although I have a black interior because mines a 2000... you could do what I did and swap out the black 97-02 Camaro ***** for your HVAC, black Headlight switch/wheel and black steering wheel controls. It might be a good contrast on a pre-00' Firebird with grey interior. But then again, it might not lol. Personal preferance I guess.

I like the firebird factory *****.. besides why go through all that trouble when you cant change the door window switch color unless you paint? I wanted ebony interior but didnt want to pay 200.00 just for a door panel from a 00+ car.

I painted my interior panels in satin black. turned out very nicely and I love it. It dosent peel or crack. It scuffs but its not nothing un-normal I also added in chrome vent rings and tweeter rings.
