Messing around with a new material I found . Dry carbon wrap vinyl .
Ive been looking for the carbon print vinyl/leatherette used in the e92 BMW M3 dash bezels and think I found it . Im not a fan of real carbon fiber or any bright accenting , I just dont think the f-body interiors lend well to it ( personal preference , dont take offense ) So this stuff is perfect for me as I was looking for something low key and tasteful . Wrapped a part the other night and I think it looks SWEET . Heres what I did .
Stock part
Everything all disassembled . I painted the vents a low luster satin black , thats why their all disassembled .
Parts painted and re-assembled . I used SEM low luster black . SEM is the best interior paint Ive come across .
On to the vinyl . Heres the print up close . It was a little to shiney as it came ,most people would be fine with it , but I like really low luster type finishes on the interior . So , I used SEM flexible low luster clear @ 1 light coat , that ended up being perfect .
Prep pic of the bezel . Used 400 grit to sand all the texture off and make sure the glue and tacky clean surface to stick too . Washed with mild soap and water and let air dry . Also is a pic of the glue I used . Its a glue rated for high temps and is the strongest bonding stuff Ive found . Puts 3m to shame imo . The brand is performance products aerosols . You gotta be dead on laying the material on the part for the first time though . Once you lay it down , it really sucks getting back up if u didnt line up correctly .
1 step in wrapping . Spray the glue on the bezel and the back of the material . Let tack up for 2 minutes . 1 step I just worried about wrapping the face and outer edges and made no attempt to wrap around the backside yet .
Then I cut slits on the perimeter portions that were gonna be wrapped . No science to it . I just started to wrap it over to see how it wanted lay and cut accordingly so I would have nice smooth edge with no gathering of the material .
I wrapped the portions on the front surface that would be visable on the completed part with masking tape . This so I didnt get any glue on it while spray it on the backside .
I followed the same process on the centers . Cut the material in a way it can be stretched without gathering around all the contours . I forgot to take pics of wrapping over the centers , but u get the idea .
Heres the finished bezel . No in car pics as my interior is all packed away while Im building the car . I love it . The material was black , but it dead on matched a ebony interior panel I held up next to it .

Thanks guys
Got it at a place called yourautotrim.com . They sell alot of automotive cloths and vinyls but the prices and minimum quantities are geared more toward individuals rather than large wholesale accounts . A yardx54" roll was on $10.50 for that carbon vinyl . Im gonna do the radio surround and bezels for the locks and power windows as well .

Haha , I couldnt capture the 3d of the weave with my camera . In person it definately looks like a correct( correct compared to ALOT of the shitty attempts ) carbon fiber weave as opposed to snake skin type texture .

I like the look of this stuff. Since you wrapped the inside by the articulation points of the vents is it more difficult to adjust the pieces that guides the air?
They're also the place that sells Ozite carpet. I have a roll of it from them sitting in my garage ready to go in my 93 when I put it back together.
