Default Car going down for a month for new mods/repairs

Well I was going to do this at the end of summer but I got impatient.. Whats being done:

1. With the expert help of Rob (Poltergeist) we are going to re-route the passengers side wire loom INSIDE the fender.. This should really clean up the engine compartment. The inner fenderwell has been pulled and we are going the cut/solder/heatshrink the wires to make them longer.. hopefully everything will work when were done

2. Removed the front bumber cover to have repainted.. I am also having the front nose emblem shaved. I have also orderd the XPEL clear nose cover and I had them customize it to delete the cutout for the nose emblem (since it will be gone).. Wings West grill is being re-painted and it will have a custom XPEL cover made for it also (SS emblems will be installed over it OR I will have the SS emblem airbrushed onto the re-painted wings west grill)

3. Red Powder paint the 1LE front swaybar and chrome the brackets

4. Remove and chrome the ABS bracket and the AC Condenser bracket (also any small front suspension brackets I can find)

5. Re-chrome a few brackets that were scratched

6. lots of little stuff

7. considering a new non-pitted windshield.. Also adding a power antenna (black)

Im gonna miss the car for the next few weeks but its the price you pay.. lol

i'm in the same boat you're in steve. my car is at a stereo shop getting custom work done to it also. i'll be without it for about 6 weeks. i wanted to do the wires behind the fenders too, but i never had the ***** to tackle that. anyway, i can't wait to see the finished product. i know it's bound to be beautiful!

LOL.. comic book?

Hey, you dont get anywhere if you dont take a chance or two -- Rob and I will push the envelope just a tad on this one

Pulling the inner fender well was a snap.. And I dont feel extending the loom will be difficult either.. hopefull this will go smooth enough so that others will want to give it a shot, should clean up the engine area a LOT.

How the car looks after an hour of tool work:

Pile of parts going to paint shop, powder painter and chrome shop

Hey Steve I'm not sure how possible this will be for you in California with emission concerns, but if you pull of the air pump hoses which run along the drivers side fender the car looks a bit cleaner. It also weighs 9 pounds (pump and hoses).
I see you have some pink or orange loom over it now, so its just something to consider to unclutter the underhood.

p.s. I just painted my headlights, front ugly plastic piece, and the bracket just behind it a nice flat black this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration

The mod bug really must be biting you to start now before summer is up. Gotta love it!

Parts are in route now for my car, damn I thought I may be edging up on you but NOOoo you go and start doing more to your car...LOL

A couple of things I am going to have done this winter is having the throttle body, water pump, and valve covers polished. Steve, have you considered this?

Supercharger & brackets, all powder coated plumbing, are going in for chroming and polishing. My wife likes the chrome intake, I am considering buying one, I need to do more research on it though. Any opinions on the intake? What is that chrome over plastic all about? Is it durable like normal chrome? If anyone knows about it chime in...

You have me psyched up now

It is really nice of Rob to help you.

Good luck with everything, I am sure it will look exactly as you plan and as always it will be tastefully done.

Well, flying off to Spokane tomorrow for meetings, talk to you soon.

Todd.

BTW, added another first place trophy from a Camaro show and shine yesterday.

Same with the valve cover due to the coil packs and such.. i feel painting these items can give a very nice look without the headache of maintaing polished parts.. for me it not only has to look good but be reasonably easy to live with

What I want to do is get a water pump for a 98 car.. it has a removable (not pressed on) pully that would look great chromed.. If I ever had the engine out of the car I would paint the block and leave the heads bare aluminum.. My valve covers will eventually be red (under the pewter FRC's)

Someday when I have a ATI I will go your route with the ducting and such

Im quite happy with the idea of getting the XPEL system.. should virtually eliminate the problem with rock chips..

And the nose should look cleaner without the nose emblem..

One month is nothing man. I've been without my Z for a little more than 3 now..

You guys must be quick to have gotten all that off in 1 hour. It would have taken me at least 3.

Good luck. You've already got the nicest engine bay. I'm sure it will only improve.

Steve,

Curious why the repaint on the front end, Grill, etc? Was there rock chip damage over the years?

I wonder what these nose covers are going to look like..
