Most people go with 5000K which is pretty bright blue/white
This is my Trans Am with the low beams on
Also keep in mind, I installed HID fog lights but the amperage was to high for my stock alt and I kept frying my accessories fuse.

I've been doing research on this as well, and pretty much every source has said that 4100K is the best you can get. They are the brightest you can get, being very close to actual daylight.
If you go higher than that, like 6000K, the lights are actually less bright and are more of a bluish color. Some people like that, but I'd rather have the best-performing HIDs.

FWIW I have 4500K, used to have 6000K and the light output with the 4500K is better. The higher you get in the temperature spectrum the more color is output sacrificing light output to do so.

Yea anything higher than 4k range is really for looks because if you go 5k+ any light lower in the spectrum will pretty much just cover it up lol. I just like the blue/white color of 6k =)

The K number is the color temp. It is not the brightness (well not directly, I'll explain). 4000K - 5000K is the brightest. Continuing up the color scale, the light gets bluer then purpler and the lumen output (the actual measurement of light) decreases. In other words, a 10000K HID kit is dimmer than a 4300K HID kit. Our eyes are least sensitive to blue light. Blue light also scatters more easily. In the end, we can see better with 4300K HID for many reasons.

One of the things I read is that 6000K is the limit that HID manufacturers go to. Anything higher than that (8000K, 12000K, etc.) are just 6000K HIDs that have been tinted to achieve a different color, making their performance even worse.

I like my 5000K from DDM tuning. I've had 8000K, 6000K, and 4300K in other vehicles. 5000 is a nice compromise between color and light output. Just know if you do go with the DDM kit, the plug that goes from the kit to the factory low beam pig tail is actually reversed. The easiest way is to just look at the wires themselves and make sure red is going to red, black to black.
