For me it's not about the dash being damaged. I just get so much glare from the dash that it is annoying. Looked for a vinyl protectant that doesn't produce all that glossy shine, not successful as of yet (any suggestions). That's why I am looking to get one as well.....

I used to use Meguires wipes and it wasn't nearly as bad as armor all. But it still left a bit of glare just after I cleaned it. I can't stand the glare much either.
