Default Remove dash to remove airbag

Well since the car is mostly a strip car now, I was wondering how hard it would be to remove the passanger side airbag? Is it hard to remove the dash to get to the airbag?
Thanks Art

I did it last weekend. Its a bit of a b!tch to remove, definately have a helper. I roped my boyfriend into helping me with it, and now have to help him with his import in exchange *shudder*

Once the dash is out, the airbag is pretty darn simple to pop out. Hefty piece too! Haven't weighed it yet, sorry. I removed all the wiring at the same time. Really cleans it up, and takes out an extra lb or two.

i yanked mine so i could put the ecm in the car, definantly requires a helper (if nothing else to consol you as you struggle) and for the aggeravation it caused i took mine into the parking lot and blew it.

but help and patience is all you need, just remember how to route the relays next to the radio (if you still have them since yours is a strip car)

Thanks, are there bolts and screws pretty simple to get to? Is there any hidden ones I need to know about?

Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

•Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module.
•Make sure the bag opening points away from you.
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

Removal Procedure

1.Disable the SIR system.

2.Remove the instrument panel carrier.
3.Remove the Inflatable Restraint Instrument panel (IP) module bracket mounting fasteners (lower).

4.Remove the Inflatable Restraint IP module bracket mounting fasteners (upper).
5.Remove the Inflatable Restraint IP module bracket assembly from the IP carrier.

6.Remove the Inflatable Restraint IP module mounting fasteners (3).
7.Remove the Inflatable Restraint IP module (1) from the bracket (2).
Installation Procedure

1.Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module (1) to the bracket (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2.Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module mounting fasteners (3). Tighten Tighten fasteners to 3.2 N.m (28 lb in).

3.Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module bracket assembly to the IP carrier.
4.Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module bracket mounting fasteners (upper). Tighten Tighten fasteners to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
5.Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module bracket mounting fasteners (lower). Tighten Tighten fasteners to 2.8 N.m (25 lb in).

6.Install the instrument panel carrier.
7.Enable the SIR system.

Disabling the SIR System

1.Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2.Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3.Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4.Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) fuse block access door.
Important: With the AIR BAG Fuse removed and the ignition switch in the RUN position, The AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

5.Remove the AIR BAG Fuse from the IP fuse block.

6.Remove the left instrument panel insulator.
7.Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the driver yellow 2-way connector (C218) located at the base of the steering column.

8.Disconnect the driver yellow 2-way connector located at the base of the steering column.

9.Remove the right instrument panel insulator.
10.Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow 2-way connector (C219) located behind the IP compartment door.

11.Disconnect the passenger yellow 2-way connector located behind the IP compartment door.

Inflators are really hard to set off by the way, once its away from a power source you should be fine. (I know I make em )
