Uh... there is a gasket there. I used high temp RTV from the oil pan to front cover corners, and around the oil pan as a preventative measure. If you read ANYTHING, it suggests to use RTV along with the gasket. Did you think I'd rely on purely RTV to attach my oil pan?

It's just to be safe. The main reason for the RTV is for the front timing cover and the rear cover. Both Haynes & Chilton books say to put a bead of RTV down before the gasket. and I put a smooth layer of RTV around the rest just to be sure.

edit: Lol, thank you pitbull.

I've never seen it done on a LS1, because its not needed with the way the gaskets are made. Timing cover, yes. Oil pan, no. SBCs, its common if you use the cork gastets. And I do read, ALOT. Just not Chiltons.

His poor 10 bolt will be fine. With A4 cars, the 10 bolt is much different than M6 cars.

My buddy Chrs1313 has an A4 Z28, had being the key word a 230/230 cam, stock LS6 intake and heads maybe prolly ~400 RWHP and went 10.8 @123 with a 1.3 60' ON A STOCK 10 BOLT..

Brian do a search on chrs1313 on the drag section you can see his vids

chris now has a monster cam, 9", TEA Heads and a FAST 92 set up
